Not necessarily his ..he's the front man ...but the the description here is somewhat fanciful. I speak as one of the few here that has been inside Campden Hill Road on more than a few occasions.
I have worked for three "Sir's" ....did any really deserve it? taking away the question does anyone really deserve a title which elevates the complete Bull in all that's wrong in our society...no really I don't think they did
By using his brain, working hard and taking big risks, he got himself into the position where he was able to be the "front man" and employee those with even better brains.
Didn't it all start by selling records from a public phone box? Brilliant!

Has Branson or any part of the Virgin empire evaded paying UK tax?
That's what is maybe going to be revealed...

No I've been self employed since I stopped the restaurant work that I did in the school holidays and whilst I was at college. Nor have I met Branson.
Whilst I'm not particularly a fan of Branson, I am a big fan of entrepreneurship and recognise the importance of entrepreneurs to the UK economy.
I make a living from helping people to legally avoid paying more tax than is necessary. I do this with the full approval of HMRC and the FCA. I'm totally against tax evasion.
I have a 6.40am flight to catch this morning, so I'll leave you to it. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Yes he was in the very early days of Virgin records they were losing money hand over fist and Branson found out you could drive down to Dover get your export paperwork to export records abroad al stamped and simply drive back to London thus avoiding a 33% duty on records sold in the UK, Unfortunately for him he wasn't the first to try this scam and coupled with a whistle blower at EMI he was soon caught and came to a deal to repay £60,000 tax, which resulted in him learning how to turn his business round very quickly to avoid Jail and pay of HMRC.
However I don't see what that has to do with his current status even if he had income on which to pay tax, he is not doing anything illegal by being non-domiciliary.==================================

Not all DG, I've always found him somewhat annoying actually. As I just said though, I do respect his entrepreneurship. It was great that he was able to assist you on your way up the employment ladder.
Sadly, I suspect that it's virtually impossible to build such an enormous empire without some individuals suffering. Breakdowns and suicides are also a sad reality for many public sector workers.

After working a few years of 80-100 hour weeks I would hardly say I was 'assist'ed ...although it did shape my view on how some entrepreneurs can shaft all and sundry to make their multiples. He is the epitome of how he sees labour as a pure utility in order to achieve his goals.

Shock Horror. Billionaire entrepreneur employs bright people to make him even more money.
Really!? I thought he even drove the trains and cleaned the sh***ers himself.
Whether or not Branson is a nice guy is utterly irrelevant.

Thanks for clarifying that to LT
Branson is a nice guy, Virgin is a strong brand ...but in reality he's a minor \ medium stakeholder in all of the 80 companies bearing the name, many of which are loss making. He makes his money almost entirely on brand name fees and royalties. Tax affairs though are where clouds start to appear ...as usual.
The train thing was farcical for sure ..but its politcal fish and chip newspaper. Whether Virgin trains or other operators the bigger picture is that there is something very wrong with where our money is going in this sector.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
Could be renationalised.....
With profits if any invested back into the infrastructure....
I know all the anti nationalised anything diehards are going to jump on me for saying that...
But de nationalising them hasn't made them better or any lower cost for the user...fact.
The benefit is to the operators who are benefiting from infrastructure (track, bridges, tunnels, stations etc provided by users & taxpayers...in the years before privatisation....
Same with all utilities:
Electricity
Water
Phone system
Public transport
Letting some "entrepreneur" take it on is initially for thier benefit...they may contribute to charity bu the actual customers pay the same or more
Tax dodging....evasion or avoidance that denies the HMRC of what should be paid may seem like a clever thing to do or to aspire to those who do it & get away with it.
The ordinary rank & file worker who contributed by PAYE.....can't dodge the system so why should others be allowed to...?BREXIT - done properly.

Correct, and this is the basic ethos of the Neo Lib/Cons and is how they see that the State may be shrunk, and certain 'essential' services would be maintained.
1) Introduce a 'Flat Tax', where everyone pays the same rate of tax on their income, from whichever source.
2) Introduce far more exemptions from tax for e.g. 'Charitable' donations
3) Slacken the rules on what defines a Charitable organization.
This will mean that the State need np longer bother itself with providing the infrastructure, roads, rail, internet, Hospitals, prisons, water, gas, electricity. Nor the Police, military, fire service, etc.
That will all be done by private finance donated as decided by the people who can now afford to spend the money saved in tax.
It is THEY who will decide who gets what and at what cost - if at all - in a straight market economy. Naturally their RoC will be tax exempt.
Anti - Trust / Monopoly regulation will be abolished as the Market will resolve everything in such areas.
Democratically elected parliaments will wither, except for accepting the status quo defined by the market moguls, and on ceremonial occasions - for the tourists.
Sic Transit Gloria Bourgeois Democracy.

Gulags were inherited from the Czars and the 'White Russians' who UK fought alongside.
The Stalinist era was one of a continuation of the terror imposed by the Russian 'Royal family' and was no more than a dictator led utterly corrupt regime. Tho', had not the Russians taken the brunt of the Nazi's world domination plans, we'd all be driving .... ?, not JLRs.
In many ways, Communist CCCP was parallel to the way that the Western Orthodox church had been run for centuries with Inquisitions, heretic and witch burning. Not to mention the devestation of world wars waged as so called Crusades to 'Free' the Holy Land.
But again and again you're mixing up Communism and Socialism. Now getting stuck to draw the line between certain sections of the P Tory Party and UKIP, NF, EDL is understandable, but between Communism and Socialism... dear oh, dear.
What you have written above sounds strangely similar to what Margeret Thatcher postulated...a free market economy.....feck the unions...in fact take them on & destroy what was known as manufacturing
What you have quoted from LT " he (Sir Branston in a Pickle) as he prefers to decide for himself who should benefit from his wealth" is priceless...
The ordinary joe on the street would like to decide who benefits.....but has like other to be taxed through PAYE or self assessed
I'd like to decide not to pay taxes tooBREXIT - done properly.

So the railways should be renationalised? Whilst fairs have gone up, government subsidy has gone down and they are carrying more passengers and freight than ever before.
Why should I, who primarily drives, subsidise someone else's mode of transport. If you want to work in London or another city and commute then that's your choice. I have to own the car and pay for the roads and fuel via a variety of taxes and subsidise the railway which I rarely use.
The argument the other way rarely holds as train users often also use the roads.Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders
