My understanding is that income is liable to tax, any rebate would have to be claimed by the qualifying recipient of the donations. And as such would have to be registered and operating under UK tax and other appropriate legislation.

He's publicly pledged to give at least half of all his wealth to charity. That's the wealth that he made by using his brain, working hard and taking big risks.
No of course he doesn't live like a pauper and why should he? Although his cost of living on Necker Island is funded by the corporate and private guests who pay to visit it. Has Branson or any part of the Virgin empire evaded paying UK tax? If they have, that should be fined accordingly. I suspect that he legally avoids paying tax where he can, as he prefers to decide for himself who should benefit from his wealth. Which I think is fair enough.
Having said that though the UK does well from Virgin. How much tax has been raised by the UK employees of Virgin owned businesses, the VAT on the goods and services they sell, the business rates on the premises etc. etc.? I too have workrked for a couple of Sirs too....one extremely good the other got his sirhood quite recently for other exploits..
My SWMBO'ds Late uncle had a knighthood...
My next door nieghbour in Norther Ireland was a Sir.....very nice guy & a really good neighbour
