Alstom....didn't invent it.....just make it under licence
APT was a British Rail idea & development that was to allow a higher sped train operable on the bendy lines we have in the UK....the whole development discussion was a study on Geigy that was part of an OU course I did...

 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics

AAA, not at all. If you read one of my earlier posts I believe that unions can and do provide a significant benefit. They helped my dad immensely.

I said they should not hold the government or the end user to ransom. If any one side, user, employer or employee holds too much power then that is inevitably at the detriment of the others.

So helping negotiate collective agreements is useful for those that cannot. It's not useful to cripple a business through overly onerous employee terms and conditions.

Needs to be balanced.

Lfw, with the additional explanation, I think you think I think I agree with you. I do.

I would post a fuller reply but it's a PITA on the phone to quote, etc

This is welcome to the Socialist Utopia where anybody who dares to challenge the great leader or the party, to show them up for what they really are, is off to the gulag. Stripped of their knighthood of course.

Gulags were inherited from the Czars and the 'White Russians' who UK fought alongside.

But again and again you're mixing up Communism and Socialism. Now getting stuck to draw the line between certain sections of the P Tory Party and UKIP, NF, EDL is understandable, but between Communism and Socialism... dear oh, dear.

Oh really.

Once again a left wing class warrior is happy to distort an inconvenient history.

The acronym Gulag was not in use until the Soviet era, being a Soviet organisation formed in 1918.

Whatever methods the White Russians used, they were not Gulags, the term hadn't been invented.

So if you are going to correct people it might be worth checking your own facts first.

Then again, like most of your left wing ilk, the truth seems not to be high on your priorities. Especially if you can slur your own country in the event.

And where have I mixed up communism and socialism? Not that I care.

An interesting piece of cod analysis v-a-v the Gulags. Rather like saying that since Penitentiaries were called Prisons before they were termed penitentiaries, that same type and style of incarceration didn't exist.
Or before the existence of oxygen was discovered and named, that also didn't exist.
It's in the same imperialist narrow mind set that for so many years led us to believe that Columbus 'discovered' the Americas, and Victoria Falls was 'discovered' by David Livingstone.
As to my slurring my own country - even if I wanted to - and I don't - it's not 'mine' anymore than it is yours, since almost all of it's been sold off by the Spiv element in the Tory party and their controllers, to: each other, Oily-Garks, the international brotherhood of Mafiosi, and sundry overseas Governments.

So your reference to the White Russians was completely superfluous because such arrangements had existed under many other regimes. Why not mention them too?

For somebody so pedantic with the details in other people's posts your own are generally pointless and unintelligible.

Why not.... my wife still gets on a train from the 80's every morning and occasionally the 70's, apparently the line is due an upgrade, they just won't tell us when the new trains are coming!

Exactly - we were the creators of the original technology in the APT. It failed largely due to media complaints of nausea, but it has now been passed on, via Fiat, to Alstom who are the manufacturers of the Pendolino brand trains - in use around the world in various forms. Smile

In all things, including the servicing and repair of my JLRD, I'd prefer someone who was 'pedantic' about matters rather than slap-dash and devil-may-care.
My life, and more importantly, the lives of my closest, depend on accuracy, not Blind Faith and guess work.
