Agree, think you'll be safer with the 275/45 combo.
But, the Super 7's had Grabber UHP 295/45/20's fitted with no rubbing

What RonP says, if going with LTZ's on a newer D3, stick to 275.
Not sure when things changed but changed they have. Top of suspension arm rubs sidewall and the protrusuon on
the chassis rail rubs also.
My terminology is probably all wrong, I'm sure Slimer or Ken will be along with the correct technical lingo.
Mine is a 2008 MY and is obviously different to Ron's.
285 grabbers are fine.
Sorry to go over old ground but it's worth repeating.Welcome "Lola"

Rob, arent 275/40's undersize and not weight rated high enough for the D3?

I would think so... 45 is more correct. 40 is correct for the RRS.

Just be aware for those thinking on getting some Cooper Zeon tyres.
There are 3 x models.
LTZ - All Terrain
XST - Road
XST A - Road [asymmetric]
For those contemplating the offer from Rob, this would need clarifying.
[although he does state AT]
But yes agree, the 40 profile would be too low for the D3.
Edited and added - just checked the LTZ sizes from the Cooper site and there is no 40 profile on the 275/20 LTZ

Ron
isnt this a problem:
Zeon LTZ 275/45R20 110 S
From the cooper site, looks like 275/45s are weight rated at 110 and speed rated at S
should I shut up now?

Never really gave the 275/45's a thought.
My 285/50's are 116 load rated, but still S rated.
As it's an AT tyre the S rating certainly isn't a problem for me or the speeds I drive at.
But yes Al, certainly worth pointing out to others for their own consideration.

Now that youve had the Zeons for a while what is your opinion of them, in terms of on road & off road grip and tyre noise? Im considering getting a set of 285/50/20's on my D4 when it arives in December. Not quite sure if the suspension changes to the D4 will cause any issue or require additional offset. But given that 19's are the smallest wheel that will fit, the extra hieght of the285/50 Zeon's on 20 inch rims would appear to be the best all terrain tyre option for the D4 aslong as it will fit.

With the risk of getting boring, I will reiterate one more time only.
Be very careful when fitting 285/50 LTZ's to a Post 2005(?) model year D3 and possibly a D4.
They WILL rub the suspension arms and on full lock the clip the end of the chassis rail.
With 4mm spacers it seems the problem is solved but I'm yet to try myself but hope to in the next few days when I get some spacers.
I'll report back then.
if you can try one before you buy o would strongly recommend you do else you could be wasting big bucks.
As far as the tyre goes performance wise, it seems perfectly fine in grip, it's not overly noisy either.
Great off road and looks the business.
Good deal to be had from Ken if he can get them. Can't be faulted for price or service, top fella.
The only other issue I've had which no doubt is a product if running 20" rims is I've taken a sizable chuck out of the sidewall of one tyre whilst laning at Salisbury.
The lane was covered with particularly large lumps of flint.
I didn't see anyone else that weekend muller a tyre I'm the same way on more conventional sized wheels.
Hope that helps?Welcome "Lola"

Bl**dy excuses !!!
Here's me, lead D3 on 20" Stormers and LTZ's heading down the precarious Garburn Pass in the Lake District.
No damage to LTZ's whatsoever.
[this is the Pass where a D3 in front [out of sight] blew a front tyre off a rim and had to be roped & secured to me to save falling over the edge whilst 'Willy the Lips' changed it with his mouth blown airbag jack! ]
or see inside rear of 2010 Disco3 calendar
Rims? .... well that's a different matter, a little bit gouged ...... hence moving back to 19's/MTR's for the more serious off-road stuff .....
nothing to do with the tyres.
In fact, the 20" LTZ in the 285/50 size gives you a fraction more sidewall than a 19" MTR on a 255/55.
Apart from that, I agree with BCP.
The LTZ is an exceptional tyre IMO, a great all rounder with [to me] no extra road noise [but I run a roof rack & lights]!
But as said, be careful on a D4....it's not been done yet !
But please post if you decide to do so.
ps, the 275/45/20 LTZ might be worth considering.

Hope that answers your question.
Actually, I think I'm right in my asumption, with a greater offset the wheel stands further into the wheelsarch. ET=Einpresstifen
so the wheel with ET45mm is actually further ou than the one with ET53mm. Anyway it may look differen due to the construction of the wheel.christian@betekconsult.com
