I think as wiki states, it's all to do whether it's positive or negative offset.
So therefore reckon that most offsets quoted in the UK are Negative Offsets.
Hence the Super 7's [quoted by suppliers] at 45mm and the Stormers at 53mm....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

hmm, I think UK's offset are the same as the rest of us, maybe we misunderstand each other..
"If you put a wheel on the same hub with a bigger offset, the wheel will sit further inside the wheel arch because the wheels bolting face will have to move further in to meet the hub."

Sorry D3N, but I give up!
The sizes quoted for both wheels was in the retailers brief.
All I know is that my Stormer wheel sits more proud than the Super 7 wheel.
The wheel & tyre package I have fits just fine.
Reckon Al Cope's your man for further info.
I'm outa here.

Yeah, i think also the design of the wheel plays a role here, i'm just thinking that i might be able to fit bigger tires if i go for a wheel with a ET40 than with a wheel with ET50... I think trying before buying is the answer... christian@betekconsult.com

Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/50 x 20 on Disco 3??????? No way..
So having read this lot about putting the Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/50 x 20 on a Disco3 I went shopping to secure some and wanted to share my experience re the apparant facts of the matter.
Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/50x20 are a very large tyre in both width & outer diameter and DO NOT fit my Discovery using LR Stormer 20" without either using custom offset rims or using wheel spacers. The #1 issue is that they make contact with the outer extremity of the upper suspension wishbone - a completely unworkable situation, which can only be solved by setting the rim out further (ie therefore need either spacers or custom offset rims). And then, owing to thier width and large diameter, the wheels will hit the inner guards when nearing full lock (or other protrusions into the wheel arches found on the later models).
Thank God for Tempe Tyres (yep, in Tempe Sydney) here in Australia who were kind enough to experiment with different tyres (at no cost) to figure out what would fit or not. My vehicle is a TDV6SE 2007 with the Landrover "Stormer" 20" rims. It does not have 'protrusions' in the inner guard areas. And to balance my negative tone re the 285/50, pls let me assure you I really did want the big tyres.
Anyway, I've settled on the 275/45x20 Cooper Zeon LTZ. Fitment is ... PERFECT. Provides for about 8mm clearance to the upper wishbone and no contact with the wells on full lock. Dunno about 4WD capabilities, or issues related to its shallower sidewall, or whatever, but IT FITS and looks good.

Yeah... I know he's actually go them on there. I can see the pictures. Guess I'm just peed at not being able to copy on my Landrover supplied Stormer rims. Didnt think these were cheapies.
Do share your findings on the rim type that "works"? Make, offset, cost?

I have a set of 285x50x20 LTZ on my 3.0l D4. They are on Tempe tyres RR730 rims. I get minor rubing on the fronts at full lock where they just touch on the end of the steel chasis of the centre of the the wheel well. A bit annoying but doesnt require any modifications. Excellent tyres I have 25,000km on them so far and they still look like new. Great tyre for the D3/D4.

WTF are you on you about!!
As mentioned by Doctor46 I've been running these for well over a year and a half with absolutely no rubbing issues!!
Just ask yourself ..why would someone be running these if they don't fit and rub [esp over this time & mileage].
Just check my gallery for pics and clearances.
Then after your apologies, get your facts right

Didn't read that bit JF just picked up on the 'jabber 'stuff.
That was enough to set off a response.
And no, I'm not going to rise to his level of offensiveness.

davemh_80 - could you take a few minutes and think whether introducing yourself to the site with such a tirade of personal abuse is really constructive and in keeping with the spirit of the site?
Yes, you may well have had problems fitting those tyres to your own D3, and be annoyed about that face, but there is absolutely no excuse to take out those frustrations on another member.
As such I have removed the insulting comments from this thread, but may I strongly suggest you firstly apologise and secondly consider how to converse with members such that you do not insult them in the future - you may even find you get some help too if you're a little more friendly to start with.

The wheel I have on my D4 are these
http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products_clos...rt_no=1468
I think they have 45mm offset, but best to confirm with Tempe tyres. There are a couple of pictures in my gallery, last one shows tyres/wheels the best.
I took a gamble on these rims and tyres as no one had at that stage tried them on a 3.0l D4. Certaintly wouldnt of blamed anyone else if they hadnt worked out, and Ronps feedback was of great help. Im glad I took a chence and this wheel tyre combination works on my car be it with minor non consequental rubbing at full lock.
Given the lack of tyre options on the 3.0l D4 I couldnt be happier. The 285x50x20 LTZ are as big a tyre as you can fit, so you get benifit of extra lift to help clear obstacle, are only marginally noisier than road tyres, offer very good bitumen grip great dirts and gravel road grip, and genuine all terrain off road grip. They surpassed my expectation off road. On one muudy hill climb which I though I had little chance of getting up the D4 cleared the hill (running 25psi) passing by a couple of lesser vehicles ie Nissan partrols with 35inch muddies which were stuck of on the side preparing to winch up. I suspect a lack of steering response due to front diff locks had caused slide wide on slippery off camber bend.
The extra hieght of the tyres mean they have the slightly more side wall depth than the only other genuine off road option being the 19 inch MTRs. The only critism I have of them is that a cople of time in very very rain I have had them momentarily aquaplane. Not sure how other tyres would have coped with the conditions but I suspect the extra width of these tyres doest help.
My advice is that if you want to get a set of these to fit you need to be carefull as to what wheel you put them on as various replicas which may look identical can have different offsets and thats why some people say they work with stormers and others dont as not all stormers are the same. I think genuine LR stormers have 50mm offset.
Love my LTZ.
