Strange how we can't have the pound and yet for years if you gave a Scottish Pound down south the number of times it got refused as not legal currency still makes me laugh, so we do have our own Scottish pound already!!!
what a lot of hot air with no real substance from both sides of Hadrian's Wall!
Technically, I don't think the Scottish pound is legal tender anywhere in the UK – not even in Scotland – they are legally defined as promissory notes. For every pound an authorised Scottish bank wants to print in the form of its own notes, it has to deposit the equivalent amount in sterling with the Bank of England as security. Without this, the value of locally printed Scottish Pounds would have no reference.

All cash is a Promissory Note, that is why it says, "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of ...." on every note and signed by the chief cashier.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

That's why I used the word "technically". There's a difference between legal tender and legal currency, although I note that robbo770 was careful to use the phrase "legal currency"
Technically, a Bank of England note isn't legal tender in Scotland either !!!

The only reason Scottish banks have their own notes is purely advertising....they are not legally allowed to issue each others notes.....the only notes that can be legally issued by all British banks are Bank of England notes
Personally the currency issue is now the central reason why this whole ill-thought out shambles should be rejected without a backward glance.....
We cross the border 5-6 times a week, and we do our weekly shop in England,(Berwick) as its the closest and most convenient.....are they really suggesting I will need to do a foreign exchange transaction to shop every week ?

Anyone who saw Sturgeon being interviewed last night will have seen how much this has her rattled. Unfortunately (or not) I missed Wee Eck on Newsnight as that might have been mildly entertaining too.Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Interesting to note that after the posh boys announced that the scots were nee getting the poond sterling began to rally across all currencies.
So I think it was also a statement for the markets that the UK currency would not support a failing post independence Scottish currency. All things shipping, storage, transport. UK and worldwide.

why would it support it? It has no obligation to, and quite rightly so.

How do you go about valuing a countries net worth, say we change to the Euro three days after the " YES" vote when everyone has sobered up, naw make that a week, we hand all the used notes back to Engerland and they issue us with a credit note to take the EU we should now be free to print as mony plastic notes as we want..............
Seriously could England afford to depound Scotland?
