Or France. So that's out.

Eck has already been caught out lying about the EU, that cost £20k in legal fees to try and hide away before coming out with it.
They can't charge UK students so that's another £150 mil to add to the costs.
Oil is a finite resource so banking an economy on it is imo foolish.

Scotland hasn't run a plus budget for most of the 300 years of the union. Simple basic fact is we ARE subsidized by the UK.
Our current budget runs at a £4 billion loss. That's a fair chunk of extra taxes/spending cuts to play with.
The markets are worried about it, the FTSE 100 doesn't like the idea.

I did laugh at how the great "white paper" only covers Scotland's finances up to 2007....
Completely cutting out the last world recession from the book... strange that... Whistle

It's a stupid idea. I hope it never happens but if it does, i shall move away as i wish to have no part of the car crash it will be. Sad

My biggest issue is the stirring up of feelings, resentment and bad attitudes on both sides of the border over it. Wounds and old feelings are getting opened up by lies, false promises and one mans vision to ruin a country. Sad

It's a tough one.

I think scotland could go it alone for a while no problem. In terms of the GDP, how do we factor oil revenues into that? My company, an Independent oil and gas company headquartered in Aberdeen, made the biggest single investment in 2013 of all uk companies. All going well we will continue this in the future, and while the Americans and the majors all pull away, it leaves a long lucrative industry for scotland to put all the skills and technology into use. The so called downturn of oil and gas is really just the multi nationals pulling away for opportunities elsewhere. Smaller operators can bathe in the black stuff for years to come. England's reserves still remain of course but England would need scottish companies to produce anything from it. And the global spread of scottish enterprise , skills and expertise is vast, particularly In oil and gas but also in areas such as computer gaming and it.

Couple that with London becoming a less influential player in global finance. The computers have weakened London's strong geographical advantage in global trading. Half of London is owned by outsiders who will drop us (uk) at the first hint of a better opportunity.

That said, I'm a proud Brit and I think my grandparents fought for Britain, not for independence. I'm not a Scotland fanatic but I am also a proud scot.

look I'm Welsh and one one particular day of the year, there's nothing I love more than stuffing the Enlish (Like we did last year in Cardiff).....But.....I am 100% British, love my country, love the fact that the four of us are part of an Union - so to my dear Scotish D3 friends out there, please, please, please keep this lovely country of ours together as a Union.

Thumbs Up

My only gripe is the passport......I think everyone should have an issue, regardless of whether your are Scottish,English,Welsh or NI..... the "nationality" section list us as British.......that's not a nationality, its a collection of countries geographically and politically linked.....
My nationality is Scottish.....I am very happy and content being, and staying, British, but its not my nationality (or,indeed any of us)......
I know many English or Welsh guys on here are just as proud to be English or Welsh firstly, and British secondly.....
Do the Germans have "European" as their passport Nationality, and can you imagine the uproar in France if they tried to change their passport Nationality to "EU"
Proud to be British, but its NOT a nationality......

Hair-splitting moan over.... Thumbs Up

From the coverage here Spain is fighting tooth & nail to stop Scotland breaking away because it doesn't want Catalonia doing the same.

Still nobody's been able to explain to me why it's only the Scottish who get to vote on whether the union continues? Shouldn't we all get a say in this?
Confused

It's not up to Britain if Scotland are in or out. It's up to the party who is departing. Britain would have a casting vote if Scotland were to rejoin I guess.

If I was English or Welsh I would be battling to keep Scotland in the union. Nothing to do with GDP or revenues, but more becasue I think it weakens Britain in the eyes of other countries. What's next, Falklands? I hope not!!!

England, Wales and Nireland, can we do you a deal? We will leave you to it and be independant if you take all the lazy ass Scots who go around robbing old ladies and stealing dogs. Deal? We will take some of your eastern europeans if it sweetens the deal? Laughing

What happens to all the english and welsh who are living in Scotland and working/claiming benefits? I mean if Scotland wasn't in the EU, would they be allowed to stay? We cant just uproot people and tell them to leave surely? Same goes for scots in England.

Dont agree...

Waht the departing (or maybe departing) party fail to or wont comprehend is that this potential change affects more than them...
......in changes like this it should involve all

.....if it doesnt (i.e. someone comes up with a convincing arguement) then its home rule for each county, vale & Bailiwick.
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics

Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

How do I change it, other than moving.
I'd be much happier with a nice Union Flag! Smile

To change your flag to the Union Flag, change your country from 'Scotland' to 'United Kingdom' in your profile - as an Englishman living ooop north (for 30+ years) I have to be careful!!

With regard to King Alec and his future should the vote be a No, he is far from being a muppet as many claim and is a very astute politician - certainly more so than most in Westminster. I think he will simply carry on stating how important it is that he continues to represent the best interests of Scotland, more than any other single party. I suspect Westminster is already preparing for this and is setting aside some sacrificial lambs for post September.

Three factors which may affect the final outcome:

1 The degree to which Cameron gets involved - if he stays out of the arguments, which he seems to be doing thus far, then the 'No' probability increases. If he gets involved, then there is a risk of an 'anti-English' or 'anti-toff' vote supporting the Yes camp.

2 Whilst the vote will follow hot on the heels of the Commonwealth Games, the (to many, more important) centenary of the start of WW1 falls between the two and will (hopefully) include a good deal of reference to the contribution that the Scottish people made alongside the rest of the British.

3 Whether or not STV decide to play 'Braveheart' the night before! Laughing Laughing
