Fine.
But just like a divorce / legal separation, one shouldn't present it as either easy or non-costly. Wink
If it were presented by Salmond as being difficult, uncertain, costly, etc but that it was for the people of Scotland to accept that as the cost of their independence then I'd have no problem.
The excessively rose-tinted view and flippant responses to genuine concerns is what grates.
e.g. what will happen if we can't join a currency union with RUK, or have to enter EU as a newbie?

Scottish independence

Why would Cameron go to Scotland to address England, Ireland and Wales - just shows how the SNP are completely out of touch with reality???

The quote from the lady with the perfect face for radio is priceless:

"- but to politicise any sporting occasion is shameful."

Lets see what she and Wee Eck do with the Commonwealth Games in the summer Rolling Eyes

But why won't he have a public debate with Eck?
I think it could be a really positive step for Cameron to show us Scots that he still loves us?

Because, whatever the merits of the debate, it would in all probability result in a degree of 'anti-westminster' voting rather than pro-independence - IMHO of course!

I would like to see the leaders for the current parties square up and thrash it out.

Agreed - but we all know that is what they are doing, and there has to be a limit to the number of people that believe what Wee Eck, Sturgeon et al have to say.

Edit - sorry - I was just replying to the first line of the post, didn't see the rest Embarassed

My gripe here is that Cameron has distanced himself from this debate until his intervention now today.
This now must open the door to other parties asking for his involvement in a live debate to discuss the issue before September.
I suspect they think any Tory involved in such a debate could be viewed as a liability to the better together campaign?

Agree with the final line completely; but to be fair to Cameron, he has been supporting the Union all along but leaving the nitty gritty to others who at least don't sound as if they have a plumb in their mouth. The reality is that it is most likely to be Labour plus a degree of common sense (not necessarily the same thing) which stand the greatest chance of persuading the 'No' camp to stay as they are.

What I struggle with is that should the 'yes' vote triumph in September then it will be less than 2 million people that are effectively breaking up the UK.

And if yes happens then it could be another party currently in the better together camp like labour running the country post the next general election in Scotland.
All a bit confusing when you consider the permutations.....

Not to mention the debate that was aired yesterday re the Westminster situation should Yes win - 10 months after the next election there would have to be a mass exodus of Scottish MPs from Westminster which, in the event that Labour were to win the Election in 2015, would in all probability lead to them losing their majority Confused

There are just too many unknowns at present for anyone to make anything other than a 'gut instinct' or heartfelt decision when voting which, I fear, is no way to run a country/Union/Democracy.

An interesting perspective but it's not breaking up the union it's just making it a bit smaller. Nireland and Wales wont go anywhere!

Presumably if the PM wanted to he could call a vote to dismiss Scotland from the Union. Of course on multiple levels he would never do this but the question is, could he if he wanted to? I've no idea.
