To be perfectly honest, when I first saw the pre-launch pictures of the D3, I did not like it at all. I vowed to keep my D2..........
until I got invited to a launch event, and saw it in the flesh, and drove it and the rest is history
I will reserve my judgement until I can see it, and find out what else has changed.

only one worth having them would be a black one because that would hide some of it at least. Can't understand why they would want to ponce about with something which already looks good.2004 Discovery 3 - gone

I think that they are trying to make it look more like a FFRR.
I agree it doesn't look quite right right now. I'll have to see it.
I'm more interested in the technical changes.
Improve the engine, and then cover the snoop dog bits in Paintguard and I'll be OK with one in 2 years when the changes have sunk in."its probably a virus, you'll be right as rain in a few days and if you're playing sport try to favour the other leg"

No real changes inside apart from the RSES, what I really hated was the grey door handles

This is all so predictable.....
ANY changes to a Land Rover product and it gets a real slating....
It seems like, given the choice, you'd have our heads on spikes outside Gaydon for making any changes!!!!!
Well....reality check....this is the real situation.
The number one design rule is to listen to customers. Body colouring all of the black panels on Disco 3 makes it look a lot 'heavier' - hence why it looked how it did at launch. The black panels lighten the car and 'cheat' the proportions...BUT how do you think we felt when we saw the numbers of people bladdering paint over everything???? AND how do you think we felt when we had so many people looking at the black panels and saying that black grained panels equals cheap and tacky - reinforcing the 'van-like' image amongst those that don't 'get' what Disco is all about.
We decided that we had to 'control' the way that body colour was applied - hence the new look which retains a black lower area to ensure that the car is not overly heavy. My opinion is that silver/white are the worst colours for bodycolouring Disco. The car at Geneva is a 'worst case' scenario but still way way better than the examples I see all too often of EVERYTHING being colour matched.
Also...the criticism you have posted about damage to the body colour arches and bumpers....it is a whole lot easier to repair a painted surface than to repair a scratched grained unpainted Polypropylene panel....the new solution is BETTER for repairability.
And there's more.....for all of you who want to retain the black unpainted arches, they will fit the new bumpers. The interfaces are unchanged. Lowline spec cars and the Commercial derivatives will stay with the black colour split as it currently is....
Back to my first point - we have listened to customers and reacted in a way that gives you choice. Stateside customers want body colour everywhere. Russian customers hate it...they want ruggedness!!!
Back in 2004 I had to listen to many many people who declared war on the aesthetic of Discovery 3. Launching a car that looked like 'the iPod on wheels' (as it was called in one review) made many people suddenly love their Disco 2 more than ever. It seems like more of the same is happening now!
Awheel, I don't know who you are but your post suggests you're 'involved' in these designs, though it's not clear to what degree, definitely not working in the 'real world' though
The number one design rule is to listen to customers - well why don't you then? There's lots of us on here, though we may be a small percentage of D3 owners overall I think we're probably fairly representative of D3 owners as a whole. The majority seem to dislike the extra body coloured parts so it appears you didn't listen, or maybe you just didn't ask?
how do you think we felt when we saw the numbers of people bladdering paint over everything - why didn't you take notice of the far larger amount that didn't
it is a whole lot easier to repair a painted surface than to repair a scratched grained unpainted Polypropylene panel - and a damn site cheaper just to replace an unpainted panel, a scratch on an unpainted panel is barely noticeable, a scratch on a painted one will stand out and need to be repaired quickly if you want to keep it looking good
we have listened to customers and reacted in a way that gives you choice. Stateside customers want body colour everywhere. Russian customers hate it...they want ruggedness!!! - so what your really saying is your pandering to US wants and have ignored or not even bothered asking the rest of usThe End
