Geneva - New Look Disco

Just got back from working at the Geneva Motor Show and added a few poor phone pictures of the LR stand to my gallery. The LRX concept vehicles were both there (white and black) and it looks to me like the black one is much closer to a possible production vehicle. (Shame the glass roof has gone) They are both stunning to the eye and drew quite a crowd.

On the disco front they were showing a silver HSE with body coloured kit. The bumpers (front and back) actually look like a different shaped moulding with extra seams between the silver and the black - or is this my imagination? Most noticeable on the back, but also look different lower down on the front too.

Another thing I'd not seen before was this design of 19" wheel (or am I just way out of date again?) - Not sure about this, design, looks a bit fiddly to me.

Most disappointing was the state of the show vehicles. The FFRR was dark blue and covered in paint swirls while the disco had a different coloured passenger door! (bad re-spray?) You can even see it on my bad phone quality pics. I know it's not really important but it doesn't help build a quality image at such a prestigious show.

Maybe they'll change it before the public days - like they did at Frankfurt.

Looks interesting, thanks for the photos, seems to hint at the '09 MY - don't suppose it said whether the D3 was a 2.7 or 3.0 TDV6?

Rear bumper is very different, looks a bit fussy though with the lines on the corners?

New painted rear hatch release and bottom tailgate trim piece as well.

I've not seen the tapered tail before. Defo different rear bumper.

I never thought to ask - just assumed it was still the 2.7!
Sorry

Nothing looked to have changed on the inside - piano black dash trim and 08 rouged leather. Nice video screens in the headrests and useful a/v connectors next to the rear cig lighter which would entertain the kids. I hope the body coloured bits are just an option. The whole thing looks a bit frumpy to me - too heavy if you know what I mean. Wouldn't look so bad on dark colours - black might even look good.

Ohhhh No !!!!

Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Well that's a decision made for me then...
I'll never buy a new one, even if I could afford it.

By making the arches and bumpers colour coded you've extended the appearance of the body downwards making the whole thing look taller and narrower and the wheels smaller. The rear bumper looks like a Japanese design students doodle with no consideration for the purity of the original disco lines. I also have no idea how long those bumpers will stay silver in the tesco car parks of the UK?

As you can see, I'm upset...

They've ruined the look and made it a lot less practical at the same time.

(To see what I mean - look at the apparent height now from the bottom of the left hand side of the rear window to the top of the black part of the rear bumper - derrrr - this is design basics really !!!)

I hope Tata can do better.

more sophisticated exterior look

Read - weaker Crying or Very sad

Rear looks far too delicate and front bumper changes at the sides soften the look too much.

Body coloured wheel arches are kack and will end up looking kacker once they are dinged and scrathed.

Nice photos crews - where and when is the TV footage being aired for the show ?

Unnecessary quote removed

It makes the whole thing look like a die-cast toy (unpainted Shocked )

All the more reason to make the current one last for ever...

("Ever" is defined as when there is no tarmac space left to permit driving D3 from one off-road location to another. Current prediction = 2012 A.D.)
2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

Simon, they're just off my little samsung phone... I wish I'd had a proper stills camera to accurately convey the true horribleness of this new look - I never thought for a minute that they would make it standard across the entire range!

I don't know when the TV stuff will be transmitted, and I can't say who I was working for in case they read what I've just posted.

Showing it off in Silver with all that colour coding doesn't do it many favours though - just too silver. It's funny that lots of dealers have been colour coding their 2008.5MY demo's - and they say they no nothing of a change for 2009 hmmmm
