Really ? I have yet to meet a sophisticated American or see anything sophisticated come out out America. Design is a European trait too... just look at their cars made of old plastic dustbins and micron thin metal.
Got to agree simon - nothing sophisticated emanates from across the pond. However, the fact remains that we are in little-league in terms of sales (especially manual boxes ).The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

From a design point of view, if it doesn't look right it isn't. The body coloured bumpers/wheel arches make it look like a van. Sorry.
Go USA!

Sorry - my line about the "sophisticated style demands of the US market" was a poor attempt at sarcasm.

At least the wheel arches and rambler pokers are not those shiny "Power" chrome steel accessories with loads of holes drilled in. Or would that be better ? (queue the adobe specialists). There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

It does look a lot better in the flesh so to speak, totally impracticable for every day off road the attempt to stop scratches on the lower front bumper is well in the wrong area (I wonder what the LRE centres will do apart from make sure there are no brambles) We I believe have to accept that we are a tiny minority of owners who actually use the car for purpose the rest tow a tin-tent or do the school run etc (Nothing wrong with this at all).
My closing thought thou is, very soon with the clamp down that's happening in towns / cities on CO2's (even woking council now are charging more if you are in a heavy VED band) the only people who will be buying a D3 size off road vehicle may be us so LR/TATA take note of your small but loyal customers

Bumpers are not too bad, if you swap the arches for black ones which is easy it will look fine.

The current D3 is such a good design, and looks so striking and individual, that its always going to be a tough act to follow. There really is nothing wrong with the current design. However, Land Rover have to change it to keep the public and the press interested, and to keep its profile high in the marketing stakes.
Looking back through the forum history, there have indeed been plenty of posts on here bemoaning the cheap look of the black plastic, and many requests for help in restoring it after polish has got into the grain etc. I have also cursed it after off-road use for the way it seems to stain with tide marks from driving through muddy water.
I can see the argument from both sides, and see no logical reason why Land Rover can't offer the black plastic look as a no-cost option. That way it keeps everyone happy.

I have to say as a none bling type (with a badly scratched (characterful )D3), one of the things I really like about my HSE, is that it look so inncouous for a top of the range fairly high end car; much better for leaving in dubious car parks than something all bright and shiny. I would rather be a part of the landscape than THE Landscape!!!!
Anyway I shall look forward to seeing the new one in the flesh....before we all beat a path to The Large Ones door for the unpainted parts
Anyway my last defender had body coloured wheel arches and they were a right pain!!!!end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
