Hi Pete - what are the min and max voltage values that trigger the FBH controller to commence shut-down?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Hi everybody,
just installed Pete's "wonder box". FBH started with the first click on the remote! Installation took me just 20 minutes. This morning it was only 7C outside but I totally forgot to activate the FBH, so I had to drive in a cold car to work. Can't wait to try it tomorrow though. Thanks again to Pete for the super quick shipping to Germany.
Now I'm thinking about installing a second battery / Traxide system to make sure that the continous use of the FBH in the morning will not lead to a weak/dead cranking battery (drive to work is only 20 minutes, so not enough to fully charge it back up). Does anybody know if the FBH will only use/drain the aux battery if a Traxide system is installed or still use the main battery? As I've understood it the 2nd battery setup is normally used to power fridges etc while camping using the aux power sockets, but in my case I just want to make sure that using the FBH will still allow me to start up the car even if it gets freaking cold like last winter.

Hi
Glad you installed ok, as you see it's really easy and it just does what it says on the run
The FBH module is continuasly monitoring the battery and if the voltage drops to much it will shut down the fbh so the car will always start. If you install a second battery because you are worried about the short charge time to your work place remember the FBH it's self also needs powering from it. The module only uses a few milliamperes to run so that it's self will never flattern a battery on it's own.
To be honest I think you won't have a problem with just sticking with the main battery, 20mins is quite a good charge and I think the alternator should be well capable of replenishing what you have used for the fbh before you started the engine.

Installed mine today and it worked straight away Great kit!
Anyone else doing this, don't spend any time trying to get the red wire/pin out, just cut the red wire as described by earlier posts.
I made the mistake by pulling to hard on the red wire which resulted in the metal 'thing' got stuck in the platic connector. Took me an hour to get it out....

Hi Guys,
Ordered mine last week, received next day, fantastic. Had a look at the instructions, fitted in ten minutes. Works brilliant! Video below:
I run my fbh every two months (now using Pete's fbhic of course) in the summer to keep it in good order As a result I get no smoke at all, some water vapour of course but nothing for the neighbours to worry about.Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

TINKERED WITH PETE'S KIT......
Its never too long before I have to have something to bits...
anyway today saw me attempt to move the fbh controller I had lodged in the front of the battery compartment, to the rear so I could elevate the antenna more by the plastic scuttle to gain a better reception for the remote (I need to zap it across a carpark some days)
well all re-routing went well, had to unwrap some of my loom wrapping to part wires to reroute.
all went ok until test run...
constant flashing red light
did all the test sequences as per this forum, no luck.
Pm'd Pete
hummm 65miles left in tank, so off I popped to the derv shop and topped it up, back home. Still red light
mean time I have confused Pete (sorry mate again!)
and to his credit offered to ring me, BUT I remembered just giving the loom a nudge back into the box of tricks, so had the end cap off to check the buttons inside, sure enough I had slid the circuit board up towards the led end, enought to catch one of the buttons and keep it pressed in.
DOH!
test ran unit ok Sent apology to Pete for worrying/confusing him and also asked the question is it ok to lengthen the antenna wire.
Yes is the answer, so there was no need to move my unit after all that
anyway (waffle waffle)
seeing as I had my tools out and fbh controller half in bits...
I thought led of some kind either on my dash? or in front grill to show unit has received a signal from my remote etc.
having a rummage around for a spare led, I happened across a 3 core cable with a female socket each end, much like something from a computer internals but I think this is from an old Nokia car kit..
pulled out circuit board to access the led and it just so happens the spacing for the 3 metal led prongs are the same for the plugs.
with gritted teeth and fuse out of course, I snipped the led off (if it didn't work I was going to solder back on) half way up the prongs .
the led plugged into one end of cable, other onto board
Touch of hot glue to stop any movement either end..

had to cut 'loom' to pass through hole for now removed led, but good ol solder + heatshrink later

Needles to say I didn't opt for the dash mount
a small hole drilled and sealed in with hot glue

so Now I can see without lifting the lid/s if all is ok, and I will see the light from my office window on a dark winter's evening, (zzap)

A nice mod yogi972
No problem regarding the pms etc thats what im here for Though my head was fryed trying to work out what was wrong.
You actually confirmed an old idea of my own ive been toying with, with your problem and that is to use smaller length switch pegs. Yours are 11.85mm and i will now fit a SMT 3.45mm long one as this will stop it ever toughing the inside of the case lid.
Good mod with the LED, you should see this no problem in darkish light as they are a high intencity low current twin color LED so should be well bright eniough for the job.
PS: with a 17cm antenna at 433MHZ you should easly get it to 200 meters depending on location of the antenna and the strength of the battery in the plip, if you make longer keep the end of the antenna away from bare metal as it will ground out and make it loose effecency.
The weaker link will always be a plip in these sorts of applications as the antenna in those are so small they are limited to a transmitting distance.

Hi pete
thanks for you kind feedback, with the antenna I added about 10 inches with my usual solder heat shrink, and the end is bent back and heat shrunk too
works lovely from halfway down my back garden and a side building in the way.
Can I add an extra remote? and if so how mucho
Many thanks
Mick
