Yes voters voted for independence to protect the NHS and because they hate Westminster...

Hi John,
Good to see you are back and engaged in the forums. Sorry for your loss as you were one of the most passionate people I have had the opportunity to engage with and it must feel very raw. I would though ask that you please don't hold it against the rest of the UK. Please also don't ask this to be rerun in 5 years, because if you actually want Scotland to advance and grow economically, especially under any new powers flowing from Westminster then the economic and investment stagnation of the neverendum in Quebec would be a good example to heed. The revote was lost partly because people believed that the ongoing uncertainty was doing permanent damage to their way of life, which is what they wanted to preserve.

Dave T, one major point was. Lack of plan B.
Which frankly is shocking from a party and movement entirely devoted to winning the arguments for what, the last 40 years? If after 40 years of thinking about these things they still didn't have a set of decent answers then frankly they didn't deserve to win the minds of those for whom the heart was not going to make the decision.

Well I would have thought that any survey of UK voters would show disaffection for Westminster politics, I for one am fed up with politicians being greedy, conniving so and so's and I do not care which assembly/parliament they sit in.
The NHS in Scotland is controlled/funded through the Scottish parliament and there was a proposal to slash £450 million off the Scottish NHS budget by the Scottish parliament. What is the betting that will be blamed on Westminster!
Yes the political system/government in the UK needs a good overall, the question is what is the best way forward for the UK and the four countries which make up the UK. Centralised government, or four separate country governments plus a 'supreme' government or stick with what we have got? Personally I do not like the idea of another layer of government as that will cost the taxpayer more as more buildings will be needed, more hanger ons, sorry research assistants, civil servants etc. We know that governments can not keep to the budgets allowed for capital expenditure, Holyrood being a prime example.

I know the vote is done, but given that Salmond is still saying everybody is being conned and tricked rather than trying to work together, perhaps he can now reveal all those Plan B's that he had. After all there won't be a vote again for some time, so why not show how good his plans were.
I suspect he is in the ideal position now to sit back and be critical of everything, without hasving to justify any of his comments.
Unless they start working together I worry for Scotlands future.

Big worry is this not being put to bed. With the threats that are flying around (things like we'll try again in a few years (regardless of the wish of the people) as the people got it wrong or just declare Independance anyway) then no businesses are going to invest NOTB. They will not want the uncertainty of the last 2 years indefinitely. It'll be interesting to see which companies that had plans to invest in Scotland that were on hold for the referendum actually carry on as planned. With the neverendum that Wee Eck would like Scotland could well be driven into the economic back waters. And nothing to do with the Westminster ELITE, all to do with the bickering and sniping from the SNP.

Given that only a 35% odd of people voted, they can't just declare independence as that would not be democratic at all.
The people they wanted to vote did and that is the outcome.

I wonder how many companies who looked at the economics of moving south in the event of Scotland breaking away will still do so even with the No vote?
Some may have never considered it before the referendum and may be looking at the recent figures or indeed the SNP Sword of Damocles and decide that their duty to their shareholders lies out of Scotland. Others, such as defence technology providers, just cannot risk being stuck in a small separatist market with legal battles over ITAR and US / UK IPR taking years to resolve.
Scotland has to unite quickly to restore their image.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I've said it before, it is yesterday's news and we've got over it, it's just other people reminding us all the time.

No, I am not convinced that the SNP has got over it and a number of them are openly talking of a revolution outside of a referendum and have not let up with their threats against major business sectors up to and including nationalisation.
The people may wish to heal but the SNP is still in power, still has influence and can still cause a great deal of damage in the months to come. They did not accept this vote with grace, humility and have yet to put the needs of a proud country ahead of their own self-centred views.
Nationalistic rhetoric post-referendum will only damage confidence and the economy.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
