This is a common problem on this vehicle, a full oil flush may help but if you have experienced bad judder for a long time then you may well end up having a new Torque Converter or perhaps even a new transmission.
The judder is likely caused by the Torque Converter not locking up.
Adding of the Dr Tranny or changing the oil is often done too late, despite Land Rover having said the box is sealed for life you could prolong the life by changing the oil earlier.
The motor industry has long said that oil changes can cause failure, this is not quite true a transmission that fails after an oil change was one about to fail anyway, ignoring your problem will not make it go away. Try the flush but be prepared to invest in new parts if it does not help you. Paul Redding

I cant imagine that a megaflush would damage the valve body? The machinery is simply pumping ATF through your system at the same pressure that it normally circulates at.
Interested to know if a megaflush (and pan/filter change) fixes your problem - I have read a lot that once Dr Tranny has been used, if the judder returns, its time for a hardware replacement. 2005 Discovery 3 2.7 TDV6 HSE (Auto)

There has been a lot of discussion about the Autobox oil in the past few weeks.
LR state 150k miles
ZF (who build the gearbox) state 75k miles
However, there are some places who have tested the oil, and say that it starts to degrade around the 60k mile mark My D3 Build Thread

Thank you for your respond. Changing transmission oil is like prevention and additive in this case, in for temporary relief.
The judder only occur when the I've driven them for at least 50km. That will get the transmission temperature going before the symptom occur. Bear in mind that the ambient temperature here is like 40 degrees to 45 degrees celcius.
I believe my 2003 E66 uses the same 6HP26, but after 220k km it is still running perfectly. I have changed transmission oil once so far. (I think i should change them again on the next oil change)
Could this mean the cooling system in the BMW is more effective than the LR3?

Thank you so much for your reply. I think it left me no choice but to insist the mechanic to do a full mega flush.
Need advice on the steps. No matter which way I rearrange them, still doesn't sound right.
1. Drain out existing oil via sump.
2. Remove sump / filter / pan
3. Put in new pan
4. Top my new oil until spill out from the filler
5. Run engine and keep topping up until overflow
6. Close filler.
7. Connect oil cooler to mega flush machine
8. Run machine until drained out oil is as good as the new oil.
Confused.

While the filters tend not to get clogged up, it seems a shame to run old, dirty oil through a new filter...
At the same time though, it seems a waste to drop clean oil to change the filter...

Hi,
I had a few problems with the car jumping out of gear and over revving. Also the gear selector was very stiff on my 2006 D3 with 118K on the clock.
Today I had the Auto box lever pivot replaced and a Wynn's transmission flush finished off with a dose of Dr Tranny.
The ATF that came out was black and after about 12 litres of new fluid was drawn through the system what came out was lovely and golden. I likened it to the colour of ground nut oil.
After the treatment the gears engaged faultlessly and the over revving had ceased.
Highly recommended.

Could the judder/ glazing of the clutch bands be something to do with the very high quality oil now used. Does it protect the bearings better but over protect the cluches. Does anyone towing hard get these problems. Could towing possibly keep these problems at bay until everything flys out the side. Geoff I need to save the pennies and get you into flush mine towed it up to 68k now done at least 2000 miles in the last 7 days. D4

yes thanks read it through about a week ago. Next big thing to fail will get repaired then it gets sold. Just dont need the pain will be another Amazon on the drive . If I spend more than £500 every 10,000 miles on any vehicle apart from servicing its binned. I may get a down rated twin wheel iveco van next. D4

Where do you fill the gearbox oil up from? I want to a) check the oil level, and then b) add some more if its low.
Found lots of info on people doing it, but no one says HOW and WHERE to fill it up (inc pictures would be ideal)
