Pete,

Try a double flush first, if it still slips then top up the (new) oil with dr tranny, I used two tubes.

The engine should be running in neutral or the oil will leak out.

Hi, I have the same problem of slipping tranny. there is no problem of gear change but the RPM runs up and down when driving up the hills. also I can hear metallic rattling noise when the tranny is warmed up.
Would the mega flash and adding the Dr tranny will solve the problem?
How can I put the tube into the transfer case and transmission?

Thanks in advance.

This problem was fixed with easy and very cheap price!
2 tubes of The Dr Tranny fixed all the problem Bow down
I couldn't believe some posts about the product fixing many tranny problems until I try.
As soon as I put 2 tubes into the tranny oil cooler hose last Friday afternoon, all the slipping, juddering problem of my tranny is gone!
It's been more than 500km since I put the Dr Tranny and my Disco runs like new!
I bought from ebay and 2 tubes costed me around $30 delivered to Sydney Australia.

For anyone who may be interested, my revs have been bouncing a bit when going uphills steady and sometimes along the flat. Not much in the way of judder though unless you really stick your foot down. Car has covered approx 125k
I drained 3.5L of the old ATF out Saturday and have covered I guess approx 150miles since then. The original fluid was pretty dark. Just drained and refilled again.
I'll let the pictures of old vs new do the talking

tmagnet my oil looked just like yours. black!! my vehicles done 133k.
Changed the ATF with lifeguard6 and runs smooth but have some slipping when booting it say up a hill.

Does anyone know how much ATF the gearbox should take in total?
was told to fill with engine running, going through the gears, then check level with engine running when temp is about 35deg. Then top up till fluid dribbles out the fill hole. Well I did that but the fluid never trickled out and it tool about almost 2ltrs more! I'm guessing with it in gear it is sucking the oil up into the trans and TC so allows more then with engine off.

Question: So is it possible to overfill? I'm guessing not as it will simply run out the fill hole.

With the standard sump, the oil should just dribble out of the fill hole - with the gearbox oil between something like 40-60'C - that way you can't overfill assuming it is on level ground as well Thumbs Up

Thanks I figured as much. Yes its on level ground. Will have to fill some more tomorrow as still wasnt dribbling out.
Interestingly I drained out approx 4 -4.5 litrs and I reckon almost 5.5 has gone in so far.

Hi,
Ive been reading that if you put a tube of Dr.Tranny (about £9) in to the ATF when you've done a flush and refill will eleveate the judder completely, due to the build up of glaze, which ultimately causes the judder

Ive been researching this, as i have just bought (3 weeks) a TDV6 2.7 diesel 2006 reg on a 55plate, 97000 miles. So far ive spent £2000 from the landrover main dealer on an array of things, including an air compressor, new brakes all round and lots of other stuff.
two rear scorpions tyres £340.
oil and filter change. £185.
new leather LR steering wheel...which is well worth changing to...£170
being delivered today a new double din sony headunit £400. Because when i bought the disco the two buttons of the radio were missing (double triangles) and you cant replace these...and the cd only plays from track 1-4.

two days a go i got in it and it didnt feel right, bearing in mind ive had it for only 3-4 weeks... booked it in again at the main dealer: TURBO is on the way out, bearings are grinding and the turbo could go any time!!!! waiting for full qoute this morning, but looking in region of £1300 for new part and £120 per hour labour...
Now, get this: Apparently, there are two types of turbo on this model; one whereby you have to take the entire chassis off and this takes 15 hours, the other, done through the wheel arch and this takes 6 hours!
I would get this done straight away, becasue i have a ferry to Bilbao booked to travel acros spain for four weeks, leaving this friday... and im taking my 3 year old daughter and 7month old son and wife...
Conundrum: Do i get the turbo replaced, only to find that i have a massive problem later with the transmission and yet more costs, or do i just bin the whole thing now, go in the other family car and part ex the disco on my return?
Sooo, that was my thinking and this lead me to be here as a new member... already feeling like i know as much as a technician... my mind was eased by the fact i convinced myself that the judder.... low revs, under load will be fixed by my aforementioned solution.

And i now youre all thinking... why is this man using a main dealer: Well, my nearest specialist car dealer,PNSC warsash, fitted the brakes incorrectly, which were dangerous and cost me £222... This was whilst they had it for a complete health check the day after i bought it! LR invoiced them for the damage done...
Weirdly, i have not fallen out of love for the car...yet..... i feel like my car is definately now in negative equity...
Overall, i am gutted, because im a poor policeman who inherited a very small amount of money and decided as a young family this would be a great adventure...WRONG! A little like the story of jack and the beanstalk...i took the money, went to market bought some magic beans....only when i woke up in the morning, there was no bloody giant bean stalk...just some rotten beans!!! no cow, no money, no food!

Still, i hope my solution helped: and stand by for some more updates as i hear and progress from the dealer: This is on top of a looming attempt by myself to fit the head unit when it arrives today... and get things sorted for a european trip in 7 days time>>> Why, do i put myself through this...?

I'm confused - if you've only just bought the car (3 weeks you say ?), why are you paying for anything Rolling Eyes

Surely you should be getting the work done on warranty - the judder described is almost certainly the Torque Convertor and if I was in your shoes I would be looking for the dealer to sort with a rebuild or replacement - should you go the DIY route and add Dr Tranny (which is very good but may not fix your problem long term especially if it is a glycol leak problem), you could compromise any future warranty claim.

Do I read it right that you bought it from an independent and not a main dealer ?? If you decide to keep, wht not find yourself a decent indy mechanic, there are plenty around.

Thanks Steve,
I bought it privately...£9000, so knew id have to spend a little on it. Youre right i do need to find a decent technician..

The trouble is..i drive all sorts of vehicles all day long..300 plus mile a day in an array of makes and models and have been doing so for over ten years, having owned in excess of thirty different cars... so i know when somethings not right. Albeit, not technically...
LR cant feel the judder...But it IS there...

Ill wait for the call, get them to change the turbo ASAP, cos need car for Spain and test the ATF conversation>>> They do seem pretty good. Guy Salmon Portsmouth.

Not too sure how much theyll charge for a transmission change and i certainly know that a new TC is not cheap!! Do you know how many hours labour a new TC would be?

Aaahh ......... that makes more sense to me, if you got it at a good price and have allowed some contingency funds then you've sort of got it covered.

Just be aware that 'all that glitters is not gold' as they say. Dealers are good a ripping out and replacing when it's not always necessary.

Back to the TC problem - go for it, £10 for a tube of Dr T; chances are it will sort it but I would also ask for a glycol test so you can be prepared for what ever is due next.

If there's no contamination, I'd get a mega-flush done, at 97000 miles you'd definitely benefit from that. Up to you to decide which order to this, if I was you I'd get the test done asap, if all OK then add Dr. T and when funds allow, get a mega-flush.

Plenty of good guys in your area with MSV-2 kit and the knowledge to help you out with any queries/problems. Geoff. is down your way (Southampton I believe) on the BH weekend with Boring Old Git and mates - drop him a line, he's a good guy and very knowledgeable.

Steve

EDIT: PS - welcome to the fold Thumbs Up

TC's are not expensive to replace particularly. Bristol Transmissions do loads - mostly Jags apparently with the same box.

Thanks,
I need a new turbo. It's £1643 from land rover. Plus 7 hours of fitting at £120. Totalling £2727... Luckily, Bow down mine is the turbo you can remove through the wheel arch...so only seven hours labour... funny you said about the main delaler just wanting to fip stuff out..... i get that feeling, but As I am off to Spain on Friday, I have given the go ahead!... I also asked them to look at the judder and ...... No surprises, they've recommended a mega flush... Three times through I think.. I've said no to this at the moment mainly because I want them to put in some dr tranny, which they don't have and I don't have time now to get it. My plan is for on my return I will get some tubes of this nod get them to flush it and add it!

Although as I type this I may well speak to them on Monday and just get them to do this as well.
I'll probably get the car back Thursday and then have to try and fit my new double din DVD in the dash, having never done one before... This doesn't leave much time for failure.

Big Cry Rolling with laughter

Got annoyed with the whole thing yesterday and called audi main dealer and arranged to part ex the disco for the new a4 dark edition...got home told my wife and guess what.... She doesn't want to go to Spain in a saloon..... So back on with the disco and more expense here I come!

I'll post on Tuesday when I get the call that the work is done. I think including insurance and tax, this brings me to over £7000 extra £9000 for the car.... Friday afternoon when they built this one I reckon!
Anyway, makes everyone else feel good reading this... unless you can beat me?

...... No surprises, they've recommended a mega flush... Three times through I think..

That's not a 'Mega-Flush' - all they are doing here empty, fill, empty, fill, empty, fill. Not the best way to do it because much of your original ATF will remain in the galleries and will contaminate the new stuff for which you have paid 3 times over !!

A proper job is akin to kidney dialysis - it gets connected to a machine which forcibly pumps new ATF in and pushes the old ATF out. Check out the forum for someone near you.

Thumbs Up
