Top stuff.
The red wire supplies lights on signal to display. But leave it as you have done.

Just so i can gauge interest on how many components i need to order, are people still genuinely after these?

I know it is an old post, but if you are making these I would certainly be interested (mailed out to Brazil)

Cheers.

Completed the brightness fix with light sensor

Created the brightness fix 'loom' this weekend and fitted. It works perfectly. Screen at full brightness in the day and auto dims at night.

Thanks to all that came before that figured out the pins needed for this fix.

As a summary of current parts available to create this fix.

I used:
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/pre-crimped-leads/1260324/
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/wire-housings-plugs/3191058/
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/ldr-light-d...s/9146710/
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/led-bezels/1711931/ (haven't tested this bit yet)
4.7k resistor.

I have a few bits left, so for a short time, I am happy to put together a few kits if people want them.

Just drop me a PM if you want one.

As an aside to save anyone the trouble testing:

I get about 67% PWM backlight duty cycle in daylight, and the screen is bright (especially if you change the brightness setting to max.

It looks like there is a software limit that prevents it from going any higher. Therefore I believe the resistor value to be about right for this light sensor.

Just read this thread while waiting in the airport.

I've got a D3 with reversing camera, am I correct in thinking I can cut the wire to get the RR screen and just activate the reversing camera to get it automatically working when reverse is selected?

You also need a CCF edit eg with gap iid

How come you have a camera ?

No clue, only got the car a couple of weeks ago.

I take it it wasn't standard then?

I've just answered my own question and see it wasn't standard.

Mine doesn't automatically activate when I select reverse, I have to press the hard button the left to select it. Assuming I would still be able to have it activate with this upgrade, assuming I do the CCF edit as mentioned above?

Don’t go down that road.

I think you have a gvif (maybe under the passenger seat)
Any silver boxes and extra wiring under there ?
See if there is a spare yellow connector marked camera

Thanks Pete, but you've lost me slightly...

What would I do with that connector? I already have the camera showing on the screen when I select it, I'd just like to be able to have it auto activate when I select reverse. I'd also like the RR screen, which I'm happy doing.

I think you have something better than the RR screen. WIth RR doesn't show the whole camera picture and can be dim in sun.

Understood, so you'd recommend leaving as is?

Funnily enough, when selecting reverse this morning my screen jumped to AV2 and back to AV3. It didn't show the camera but at least recognised that something was happening.

Here is my version.

Into outer frame installed plastic lens covering photo resistor.

Designed new PCB for buttons.

Original components placed on their own places on new PCB. No need to change buttons, PCB implied this. Used original cable to buttons, just replaced two pins on display's side.

Hi TheTERMINATOR

Looks really nice.

Is it possible you can list which components you have used and how they are connected

I used 5528 photo resistor and 33kOhm. Connected as shown many times before in this topic.
