It can be done - I've done it. You have to remove a wire from the nav screen, but its not perfect. All this does is fool the car into thinking its a range rover, and giving a few extra features (not all of the features work though). Full credit goes to Wiggs, who gave me a picture of which wire to remove.
I can supply some pictures if you like?

Is this process reversible (i.e. said wire is cut, de-soldered or unplugged)?

@mjom89 - When you say "not all of the features work though" Do you mean all the new features dont work or some of the original features dont work any more?
Just interested as could be interested in doing this myself d4 HSE in Corris Grey with Black options pack
D3 with the following
Alive Tuning EGR blanking kit
Alive Tuning Re-map
Alive Atrics console
Samco intercooler hoses (from Alive Tuning)
Alive Tuning De-Cat pipe, lovely tone!
Retrofit OEM Hybrid TV tuner

the biggest issue is the brightness ....once it thinks the car is a range rover it stops using the inbuilt light sensor . The screen is then quite dark
nav ....works fine
phone ...shows names etc on touch screen
radio ...works fine and shows radio stations on nav screen
cd ...will play ...will not select the 6 disks as the RR had a seperate cd player
4x4 ...works .,..and shows a large terrain respone knob on the touch screen..
aux ...can be selected from the touch screen
trip computer ...lap timer works ...fuel economy does not
if you enable the reversing camera ...then it will work automatically when in RR mode
I had a seperate dimmer made which plugged into the main board on the nav screen ...cured the dimming issueG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Yes
Aux selection if you have rear seat entertainment and dvd
you need to remove the 4th wire from the end that starts with a red cable (or 4th down from either end )
remove the touch screen (held in with 4 torx screws ) then there are 4 screws holding the black surround on ...remove them and take off the black surround .
There you will see the connector pictured above ....its the connector for the 2 hard buttons
i cut the wire and put a switch inbetween so i could switch between the RR and Disco software
you have to let the car go to sleep after selecting either ...then when you restart the software will come on automatically
Note on the phone ...you will only get the contacts showing if you have a 2008MY and onwards ...or if you have had the bluetooth module updated ...or had one of my exchange modules .
Basically if you dont get contacts showing on the radio now ..you wont on the RR screen
Also it may crash now and again as the car will get confused as to were its supposed to show the contacts ...on the radio or on the touch screenG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Oh .... forgot
your home button does not work ...you need to select home from any of the touch screen pages on screen ....and the other button is now swapped round
sounds worse than it is ...and you could always swap the pins round on the connector pictured above if it bothered youG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

the software is already there
the car only knows what to boot up with by the number of buttons connected ...
6 for the FFRR and 2 for the Discovery ....by removing the wire it thinks its a RR (and no... you dont need to remove any more wires )G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
