blue tooth module

i have a rr 2004 vogue and (according to LR) the bluetooth module has blown due to water getting in, radio/cd etc not working. LR have quoted nearly £600 to fix. I there a cheaper option you can help with.

Hi Wiggs,
[New to the forum so I don't have sufficient posts to pm you.]
I have an 06 RRS HSE TDV8 with PTI (Nokia BT module XVJ500046) that I want to update due to the pairing issue. I managed to pick up a D4 module (FoMoCo AH42-10F845-AA) from ebay but I see from your many illuminating posts on the subject that I need a different lead to get it working, e.g. http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...ate~1.pdf. Do you supply these?
TIA
Simon

Hi

It's just a 2 pin connector ( same as a pc DVD / CD player connector ) with 2 pins fixed on other end to push into the original connector .

I'm sure I can make you one up if your struggling .

I'm away till Thursday , so if you remind me then it would help

Hi Wiggs,
I think I am ok - I found a bag of wiring stuff that I thought had been thrown out years ago. Should do the job nicely:)
Thanks for the offer though!

Finally took the plunge and replaced the original Nokia module with the D4 one.
Got the module and new bracket from TLO - thanks Nick.

First removed the RH rear trim panel to access the old module and removed it and it's bracket - sorry no photos of this bit, but Wiggs bluetooth exchange guide gives a good view. Remember to get new clips (6) for the panel as they often break.

Next, the new bracket which I hopefully thought would bolt straight on but didn't Embarassed (or I've fitted it in the wrong place). So to securely fix the bracket, I bolted one side to an existing but unused threaded hole to the right of the impact sensor and made a Z shaped bracket to secure the left side to the TMC module mounting. The impact sensor remains in place but is hidden by the new module.

The MOST cable just plugs straight in, the power cable needs to be adapted to suit the different connector of the new unit. A simple cable can be used as described by Wiggs in page 44 of this thread, however I chose to try and use the original type of latching connector, this is the same as used on the satnav computer unit. Finding one of these is difficult as they seem not to be available from Land Rover.

Chassis is pin 15 and battery pin 31

The Tyco part numbers are:
Connector shell 929053-1
Contact holder 968265-1
Crimp contact 963726-1

They are available, although to be economic I would need to order about 20 with about 8 weeks lead time.
Further research revealed that this connector was also used on the MFD unit in certain Vauxhall Vectras, not worth buying new, but available used - they are difficult to take apart without damaging though. A similar connector is also used in VWs, is blue in colour and has fewer keys on the connector body, it does fit however.

These can be bought singly from a seller in Poland for less than £10 and take a bit over a week to arrive. Search for part no 1J0972977D

I spliced the wires to the new plug to the red and black wires in the original plug - the blue wire is not needed for this module. Although it draws 0.2A when operating, after the MOST bus shuts down it goes onto a low power standby mode and draws negligible current.

All fixed in place and connected, I left the original connector mainly to save needing to safely terminate unused wires.

Put the rear trim back and all working and happy.

Wiggs, PM me if you're still interested in my old module.

Hi all

After reading all 47 pages of this thread with great interest, and after contacting the main players in this area, I am almost ready to take the plunge and purchase the d4 module.

My own particular set up at the moment is that I have the HSE which runs the nav, aftermarket Bluetooth with green and red buttons on the steering, and voice control so the mic is in place. The bluetooth currently pairs with 0000, but fails to automatically reconnect with my Galaxy s3.

Therefore, my control modules at present sit either side of the centre console just behind the front footwell panels, rather than being in the boot as per the factory fit kit.

Master wiggs has confirmed that I would need a d4 module, which can be placed beneath the passenger side footwell panel, with new power and earth connections being run from the fuse box under the glovebox. I am okay with this part and I am confident of doing this myself. I also need wiggs' plug and play most wiring adapter, which again I think I am capable of fitting.

The bit that I am a little unsure of is removing some of the existing loom to allow the new module to operate. Has anyone in my situation carried out this work to their own disco or indeed someone else's? If yes, can you let me know roughly what is actually involved in removing this old loom and more importantly what I need to leave in place for the existing mic and phone buttons to work?

All I would then need to do is get the module enabled with faultmate or similar.
