D4 Bluetooth module in D3
After listening to the quaility of the D4 bluetooth ...in fact that good that i didn't even know they were driving ...i decided to try a D4 bluetooth module in the D3 today .
Larger box ..less pins on the connector . ( why they need 32 pins when only 2 are used is beyond me )
First off the connector is different ...there is only 2 rows insted of 3 .
The most is the same .
I got an old computer disk drive plug and cut it so there was only 2 pins .The new bluetooth only needs power and ground ..thats it .
Most was just a simple swap .
Few differences i have noticed .
Now shows provider and signal strength .
Phone book loads up a lot quicker . There is also now more names able to be stored ( last one would only allow 300 )
It also now tells you if its a mobile , home , work etc ..but i suspect that would be phone dependant also .
Still shows up on dash LCD screen
The 3 people who i spoke to on the new module all agreed it was much clearer and no echo ..result
This is what it looks like on a range rover screen ..as i have the ability to swap software with a press of a button
Much better on the touch screen ..this was a bit hit and miss before the new module
Hidden button for software swap ..hidden behind H trim .
Programmed these up with the latest D3 software aswell . Im thinking of offereing a postal bluetooth upgrade service . Will do a little video of how to remove the panel and see if there is any interest .
So D4 bluetooth works in the D3 ..G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

will this work in 07MY D3? Only reason being i don't have any phonebook whatsoever, and it doesn't come up where my speedo is either, or would my car require more than just changing the box over?
Also what sort of price are you thinking as this would definitely be better than what i have now
Many Thanks

If it can do the 'Home' 'Office' 'Mobile' option from the same contact, then thats sold it to me 8) I find it a right royal pain in the on my D3.
My Blackberry has all my contacts with one entry, with all relevant numbers stored on the same contact. It makes the D3 integration very poor, as it only dials the first number in the list for each contact. I usually end up using the phone to select the number, which of course is illegal.

If you have factory fit bluetooth , you can proberly get the software upgraded to give you phone book over bluetooth ( and any pairing issues ) without the need to change the module .
I can do it ..but distance maybee a problem ...thats why im thinking of a postal service . I would send a bluetooth module with the latest software ..you send you old one back and cross my palm with some reddies G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The old Nokia box does not ( as far as can remember ) show the office / work / mobile option .
I will try and see if i can get the software off the new D4 module and program it to the D3 one ...but i suspect there will be differences G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The D4 bluetooth module was just something i wanted to try in my own car ...just to see if it would work ...i may be able to get some more , but wont know for a few days .
The postal service / or my normal bluetooth upgrade is just realy for people without phone book or pairing issues .
If you want the functions of the D4 module ..you may have to stump the cash and buy a new one G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
