So wiggs - exactly what are the differences between the factory and aftermarket kits? I have seen the bluetooth boxes are fitted in different places, but are they not the same box ?

LR Aftermarket kit
just gives you basic bluetooth ...limited voice dialling and "phone " displayed on the radio
Factory fit ( or PTI is the proper name )
intergrated into the cars MOST ( fiber optic ) system. Gives you names / numbers on the radio and on the LCD dash screen ( software version dependant ) . You can dial out from the numbers on the radio . Full voice control . Says "bluetooth " on the radio ..will also tell you when the phone is attached or removed .
The 2 boxes are identical except the PTI kit has an extra connector ( MOST )
PTI is fitted behind the boot panel ( drivers side )
LR Aftermarket kit had 2 modules ..bluetooth and control box ..these are fitted either side of the lower center consul ( left and right of the ash tray ..just slightly lower down )
PTI kit can be software updated while in the car ...LR Aftermarket can not be updated at all .
Hope that clears it up .
Unless you have a completly different aftermarket kit ..then this info is not much use G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Nice one Wiggs Might have to hunt one of them D4 modules down
Did I miss the post on how you've done the mod to swap to the RR software, or is that not for the public domain yet?
Not made the mod public as there are a couple of issues ..most noticable is the RRsoftware does not use the D3 inbuilt dimmer ..so the screen is quite dull .
90% of the rest of the software is working ..including fully automatic reversing camera G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Would that be part no LR010844, costing some £211 (before any discount)???
Not sure ..they all have ford part numbers on the modules now
The old bluetooth modules required an exchange one to get a good price
old ones were ..roughly
reconditioned + exchange £170
reconditioned £240
new £320G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Hmmm ... I lifted that part no (and price) from my copy of Microcat.
I shall be watching this one whilst I am away - it may well end up on the 'to do list', along with the TV tuner ... Regards,

Very interested in this postal upgrade, I have D3 my06.
My current BT unit pairs to my phone but I get no phonebook or other info.
When you say the BT module is in the boot panel, is it visible easily and can I drive the car with it disconnected ? does the lack of MOST plugged connection prevent other operation ?
Would you send the units and the 2 pin cable ? and where does that cable connect to ? i.e where does it's power and earth come from ?
please let me know when you have the prices and availability.
