ahh that enjoyment will last only a few weeks, once the gearbox has re-learnt your driving style (when the linkage is replaced the battery needs to be disconnected), then its back to normal on pick-up
Got me complete gear selector/cable from a D3 that had only 10 miles before being broken down, normal price £150 plus vat without the cable....... £50 inc vat. Being fitted this Friday then off to 4tec to have em flushed

Thanks a lot for an excellent article! You saved my sleep this night. I sold my car today, and OF COURSE it started slipping out of Drive this evening. Luckily I looked at this forum before pulling all of my hair out. I know what to do tomorrow before handing it over to the new owner... Atle Coward Markussen

Thanks Disco_Mikey for this great contribution.
My Disco's been faultless until now, but it's funny how things start going pear-shaped for the sake of such a small component. I'm just waiting for the part to arrive at TLO's.

Many thanks for the great info on this forum. I had major problems yesterday, had to hold the lever in the 'D' position by hand whilst driving - good jobs it's an Auto!!
This started happening a few weeks ago on and off, I dismanted the lever cover etc in the cabin and saw the cable from above. I sprayed WD40 down it which did ease it off but only for a short while - Looks as as though I was tackling it from the wrong end!
Just ordered all the spares form a very friendly chap at Beadles Landrover (shop4landrover.co.uk) and parts should be with me in a day or two. Looks like a job one evening this week 2007 Series 3 HSE

on your 07, you'll have to change the EGR's you can't blank them (well you can, but you'll still get the light)

Bodsy, yes I'm aware thanks, I've read a few posts on this forum.
It has been into my local garage (Not a L/R dealer) twice and on both occasions they cleaned them up and extingushed the light for me, but it only last a few weeks before the problem re-occurs.
The light is now on permanently but with no detectable loss of power so I think one of the valves must be stuck closed
I need to check my Chassis number to ensure I order the correct ones, and then aim to buy genuine L/R parts off of e-bay.
I am towing a caravan to France at the end of July so consider it might be best to fit them before hand. I am concerned that the faulty valve may release and then stick open which would put me into limp home, although I am not sure of the likelyhood of this 2007 Series 3 HSE

Hey neighbour!
There was a thread on that little box a while back. I think the general consensus is that little box is some sort of interference suppresor, IIRC...
Would try a search and see what it brings up My D3 Build Thread

Came across this post other day and thought ..mmm selector is getting a little stiff..will take a look..
Have just finished having followed the instructions, and cleaned everything up & applied the old copper grease. What a difference! You just dont realise how stiff the thing has got until you have cleaned it up and everything moves freely again.
Would recommend everyone doing this easy bit of maintenance !!
Top post Cheers Ian
