Cable/Rod Snapped???
I took my 2006 LR3 to a local garage after experiencing the same issue with the gear shift sticking and coming out of drive.
I gave the garage a Print Out of the fix from the forum which seem very self explanatory. They told me no problem they could do it and it would cost around $75, which was fine.
I got a call from them about 4 hours later and they told me that when they were removing the bottom bolt/nut that it snapped the Cable/Rod tip????????????????????
They said they called the Stealership and there is no fix except to replace the whole transmission. $7,000.
So I went from a $75 quick clean of the bits to $7000 replacing a whole transmission because the Rod is broken.
Someone please tell me there is another way to Fix the Rod/Cable or Replace it... I feel sick just thinking about it.
Thanks in advance.[/quote]

if they snapped the cable, then a replacement cable back to the gear lever. Unless they've broken the shaft in the gearbox somehow......... Bodsys Brake Bible

Release the selector cable.
Using an additional wrench, restrain the clamping
bush and loosen the locknut.
Compress the latch and release the cable.
I wonder if they followed the guide to the letter! I bet not. Maybe they should pay for the new cable?

they'll have just turned the outer nut & not kept hold of the inner nut that retains the cable....Bodsys Brake Bible
