rooting?

I have had mine installed now for nearly three months. I absolutely loved it,without doubt it’s the best mod you can do to an ageing Discovery. When I first installed it and began playing around, I did experience a few unexpected closures, but since I rooted it (a heart stopping experience)and got rid of all the preloaded cr*p and bloatware it’s been perfect.Boot up time is not fast, but the radio is instant and reverse camera is instant and by the time I have buckled up and driven out of my drive, everything is up and running. I recently watched a comparison video showing the differences between the px6 and the px3, (mine) there is not a lot in it.Saying that, the px6 is a better option.Mine behaves just as you would expect from an android tablet. It’s definitely not slow. For all the stuff that is now on there I find that CarPlay is what I use most.Just go for it,you won’t be disappointed and you can easily revert to the Stone Age at any time.

waiting for my unit to arrive this week and then I'm going to jump into the install, but wondering what you mean rooting it to get rid of bloatware? any advice on this? Seems like it would be the smart thing to do but not sure I'm tech savvy enough to know what to do.

Rooting an android is like jailbreaking, you gain access like an administrator in windows. You can modify stuff you normally do not have access to.It’s not for the faint hearted.Do some research, look for forums. I use an old android phone to practice.

What was some of the bloat ware of concern? Or was it more about being able to personalize?

Try disabling your phone Wi-Fi just in case it’s trying to connect it, also you could make CarPlay a manual connection instead of automatic and see if it helps.

Andy - would you recommend using an app like Framaroot to root the device if you cannot do it with a computer? Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

I used KingRoot or Kingoroot, you may have to try different ones as they don’t always work, some get stuck. I strongly recommend thorough research on rooting forums. It must be approached with caution, you can easily brick your device.

Hi, how did you manage to make CarPlay work? I’m straggling with this Android Technology wrote:
You’ll see the CarPlay wireless kick in which I’m going to try and turn off so I open it up manually.
Video quality is great on this screen and responsiveness after its booted fully (you’ll see a few slow responses initially) is really good as well.
GPS connection (cables tomorrow) and audio speaker (front/rear) problem aside I am loving this unit and once I’ve got it setup and the homepage sorted out fully, it will be a fantastic replacement and upgrade.
One item I’m still mixed on is whether to use hotspot on phone or get a separate USB with SIM card for car. At the moment if you use the phone hotspot you have to connect it manually every time.

Rear Entertainment
First off I have read every one of the 18 pages of posts, very informative and getting me excited to join in.
This might be the stupidest question there is, but what kind of functionality improvements are there in terms of what can be pushed to the rear entertainment screens (if installed)?

So, after following this excellent thread and the very detailed write-ups, I've just ordered mine from Yanav store [https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001506583674.html]
Final price 4GB RAM/64GB ROM with Carplay was US$ 738 (£534.95)which included free shipping (DHL was an option for faster delivery but at an extra $50-80). As I'm not able to get it fitted for another couple of weeks this really didn't seem worth the extra.
I spent ages talking to a rep on the online chat and must say he/she was very helpful.
Looking forward to getting it fitted and trying it out.
Thanks all for the excellent info so far[/url]2015 Discovery 4 HSE

I really hope your experience is better than mine with Yanav!
Mine took nearly 7wks to arrive. Instructions were poor at best. Finally figured everything out, stripped out my car and fitted it, only to discover the bloody thing didn’t work. Spent ages sending messages/whatsapps/photos/videos etc of everything trying to resolve but all failed.
Agreed to return unit and I’m still waiting for another unit to be shipped.
Told so many lies and - it’s been posted 5 times now but still no tracking number! Allegedly will be shipped tomorrow but I’m not holding my breath. Will see if I get a tracking number or not. I’ve already decided that unless I have it in my hands by 2wks on Friday that I’ll be putting in a PayPal clawback.
