Anyone know if there is a version of this that just replaces the stock screen with a higher quality version?
I'd love to add Android 9/10 and have a screen that works in the sunlight.
Navplus/Navtool solutions are expensive compared these setup and are much older and reuse the crappy original display.

Everything I had before is there, on a bigger brighter screen, that’s the beauty of this conversion.
All the steering wheel controls are just like before.
The button and knob controls that used to be below the original screen are now icons on the new screen
any way I can do the same for a disco 3?
I've installed (not me) the screen but missing things!

You should set up a new AUX whenever you start a car. How can you make it automatic?

Installed this mod a few months ago and it is great, especially for carplay. But I have an issue that is slightly annoying. Once set up, all works very well but when I shut it down, it takes about 8 to 10 secs to boot up and more often than not, the input has changed.
So, the way it seems to work is that everything from carplay etc is routed through the Aux connection, the original LR radio / DAB DVD etc options are still there and you can run the system as before if you want, using the top half of the screen. But the problem is, when it shuts down, it hops off Aux to Bluetooth or ipod during the next boot up and I have to go back into the LR audio controls to select Aux again. Only takes a few button presses but wish it would stay at its previous setting. Similarly, if I leave it on the radio when I shut it down, it switches from FM to AM on the next start up.
Anyone else come across this, any potential fix?

Download and install an android launcher, something like CarWebGuru, give it permission to take control, set up your applications as a home page and after boot up it should default to this page. I have now installed three units and not experienced that problem.

Andy,
Thanks for that, just to confirm, can you still retain the LR screen with a new launcher?

I just looked at my notes from my installations and I found that there is an option in installer settings (code 666888) where you can select aux options. This may depend on which unit you purchased but it’s worth a try.

How are you listening to the sound?
Do you set the aux setting when you start the engine?

What about newer models without 3.5mm audio jack?
dgarside wrote:
For future reference for doing this upgrade here is a couple of video links for removing the centre dash and screen.
Lower Console - - similar for later D4's without the gear knob removal.
Centre Console Part 1 -
Centre Console Part 2 -
These should help with most of the disassembly/assembly, you don't need to remove CD just the screen
Any questions, let me know, I've had this dash apart quite a few times now.
Dgarside - this is awesome info. My unit is due for delivery this coming week and I'm pumped to install it ASAP. One question for you, I've got MY15 and wondering what to do without a 3.5mm jack? Can it work through the bluetooth without any cabling? I may have 100 other questions when I finally get started on the install. FWIW I did order those cables to connect to the GPS and the others either you or Andy recommended.

USB along with tesla screen

This is the USB 2 Port Extension I used to replace one of the accessory sockets.
Worked a treat once I got the lighter socket out, I used the right hand one for the USB, it had space underneath (just) to fit the plastic nut to hold in the socket.
What does this look like on your D4? is it just a replacement for the cig lighter done underneath the center console?
