WHY is DAB in a D4 so rubbish? |
|
In all the other Land Rovers I’ve had, DAB is stable and reliable.
It’s billed as being better than FM in every respect and yet, in the D4 it’s patchy, screechy and spends half its time saying No Reception.
What is it about this particular model that makes it so poor?

DAB is poor around buildings and trees or anything else that blocks the signal, but connected to a mobile phone via Bluetooth it works well It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I was thinking of changing the unit, its that annoying. Oddly we dont have the drop outs in the BMW in the same locations.
What's really odd is that I regulary take the VW to Wales, and the radio drops for LBC around junction 16 on the M4 and then that's it. (Phone / Bluetooth option). On he way back I usually re-establish signal with LBC about 5miles east of Abergavenny.....WTF? The difference is the carriage width and direction of travel

I never had any DAB issues in my old D4. In my Defender it's brilliant.
Maybe use your phone instead of DAB if it's patchy. When I'm abroad I use my phone to link to radio stations via Carplay but I also did this in my old D3 and D4s via bluetooth. Works a treat. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

DAB reception and also rear camera quality varied considerably on all of my D4's.
I assumed, wrongly or rightly, that LR had used different spec./quality components at different build times. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
