Sorry, just to be sure:
- I can remove the red wire from the 2port on the FBH and place the wire from the timer on that port instead? (seems a better option than cutting the red and connecting to the FBH end. I'd like to open the connector and connect the timer wire directly)
- The red wire will thus become obsolete and I just have to isolate/insulate it (of course)?
So, the red wire in fact has no function now? Will the D3 still be capable of switching on the webasto when starting the engine?
On an earlier post I read you have do disconnect from the ATCU before cutting (or removing) the red from the FBH. What is the ATCU (is it the D3's computer)?
Thanks

NoDo$h,
reading your replay again where you say 'you MUST cut....'. Does this mean I cannot connect my timer wire directly to the port2 but MUST CUT the red and connect to that? If so, why is that? Why can I not remove the red, attach the W-bus wire coming from the timer and leave the red insulated (and appearently obsolete...)?

i think the point nodo$h is making is not to join the timer to the red wire whilst it is still connected to the ATCU but to make sure it is only connected to the FBH .
there is no reason why you can't just remove the red wire and insulate and connect direct if you have the appropriate connector for the multiplug. Tintenter

Thanks tintenter,
Since it's my dad's car I'm fitting I want to be extra careful.
Do you agree: the red wire becomes without function? After fitting the W-bus wire from timer to the 2port (removing the red) I can leave the red wire just insulated, not connected to anything? It becomes obsolete.
Sorry for being such a dummy....

I succesfully installed the timer/GSM unit on my dad's D3 too today, thanks to you all. Absolutely unbelievable LR has not come up with this solution. Part-wise not a big issue. The webasto dealer I did my D3 with was sceptical at first and astonished afterwards when the unit was heating up by phone.
Will have 2 toasty D3's in the snow now!

I'm going to upgrade my RF remote to a GSM in January but am struggling to find a suitable unit. Ideally I want one that sends a text back once the FBH pump is running, triggered by the 12v current across the pump wiring. Only need one output as I don't have a dual battery system so won't be running seats, screen etc off a second output.
Every search for GSM remote brings up piles of alarms that will page your mobile and rail-mount 110v and 240v systems, but units suitabe for this job seem few and far between. Naturally I want to pay about 30pence for it
Any hints, suggestions or offers of a GSM unit for 30p (including p&p) gratefully received I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
