definately black or pink, Mmmm.. but which one Confused
Both, whether +ve or -ve is switched, the LED will only illuminate once the pump is active

There's an +ve out on the four-pin connector. If you've got the timer wired up correctly, you're using three of the pins (+ve in, -ve in, w-bus out) and that leaves a 12v +ve out. If you connect that to the anode (longer leg) on an LED and earth the other leg of the LED you have an indicator Thumbs Up

That only shows the timer is active, wiring across the output to the circulation pump (or the fuel pump) will confirm FBH activity.... or just look out of the window 90 seconds after sending the 'go code' for smoke from the FBH exhaust

(why cant the D3 run on just 3 wires like wot my defender does Thud)

Black = +ve
Brown = -ve (no wiring colour change indicated, but it may look 'pink' after a couple of years of engine bay heat)
Just wire the LED across those and you'll have a visible indication of FBH activity

Fuel pump is pin 5 on the large connector, white & blue wire, this is a +ve output so you'd need to connect the LED's cathode to vehicle -ve as an alternative to the circulation pump method above, note that neither the circulation pump or the fuel pump outputs are active immediately upon FBH activation

what is the diameter of each of these two cables?
would a 'scotchlock' type connector be OK to use for this?
