Cheers fellas - it is indeed a red one , I was expecting pin 2 to be blank
Scotch-locked the green controller output to it and Bobs your uncle or should I say, Pete's the magician
First click and off it went - couldn't believe it so did it again
Water temp lifted from 13.5C to 53C
Excellent and thanks again - what a great place this forum is

Here is a short Youtube video of the bootup sequence of the FBHIC, ive added this to help anyone who has had a problerm connecting pin2 or has a possibile fault on the FBH and finds that my module cant communicate with it because of any of the two mentioned errors.
Here is a bit of relevent text to the video.
This video shows the LED boot sequence when you first power up the BAS FBHIC for the first time.
You will see it starts by 1x long flash and then 2x short flashes, This is the firmware version. Its then followed by a further 2x short flashes as it gets communication to the FBH, please note that the second batch of 2x short flashes can take upto 15 seconds to show depending on the FBH state as it gains communication. After this you will see 1x short flash every 15 seconds as the module sits in idle state after its gained its first connection with the FBH.
If you only get 1x long 2x short followed by 3x short the module has not found your FBH and you should check the connection to pin 2 of your FBH and its 12v feed. Then repower the module again looking for the correct boot.

FBH Remote fitting idiots guide, well I managed it :-) |
|
OK, I have just fitted my remote FBH on a 58 car (no red wire whatever that means), so here are some pics, hope they make sense.
Firstly you have to identify the biggest of the two connectors going into the FBH, you will notice that some have blue rubber blanking gromits, you need to insert the 'green' wire into the bottom row, second from the left. You need to get this connector out, so you push in the sides of the connector and it pops out, I used a pair of pointy pliers to grip the blue bottom row, second from the left gromit and pulled it out (see pic below), what you then do is slide the pink bar that is the opposite side to where the blue gromit you have just pulled out was, to the right, that being the side that seems to have more room, there was a groove I could put a screwdriver in to help slide it, a bit tough at first then just went. You then put the green square ended wire from the controller into the hole where you took the gromit out, it goes in quite far and you then hear a little click, when you hear that turn it over and slide the pink slider back to where it was. Now put the connector back in.
I then cable tied the green cable to existing loom to keep it away from the FBH exhaust, I then took off the cover from the batteries and using a pair of snips made a very small groove in the lower edge of the casing to allow the green wire to enter the battery box, if you don't the wire will get crushed and this could be a problem later, you don't see it when the lid is back on, see below.
I then untangled the cables and fitted the black wire to the wing, I then ran that cable round the side into the battery box, I then laid out the brown aerial wire up the side of the battery box to give as much reach to the aerial as possible.
Finally I fixed the red wire to the battery terminal as shown, JOB DONE!
I am no technician but have had to look around to find photo's and some were of older cars, so hope this makes sense it is a ten minute job.
Shows position of green wore from control unit fitted into connector, also see other blue gromits I talked about
This shows the small ble gromit removed from bottom row, second left slot
This shows how I tidied up the green wire to save a fire hazard with the FBH exhaust
These are pictures of the green wire entering the battery box (sorry 1st pic is sideways, rotate 90 degrees right), The second pic shows the connection to the battery with the red cable.
Finally this picture shows the black cable going around the side of the cable box and where it was connected to the wing. It also shows the brown aerial wire going up the side of the battery box where it was laid out for maximum signal.
I hope that helps someone who was afraid of doing it
Oh! it started first time as well

I am great at buying but rubbish at selling, and absolutely useless at just about everything else, so iPhone App development?
By the way, 3rd pic down shows what it looks like when it's done, nice and tidy

Sorry I couldn't find that thread, and seeing the length of some threads it is hard to trawl through to find the information. I won't bother wasting my time trying to help others and site sponsors in future, clearly the time spent taking pictures and writing about my experience is not appreciated from the scowl

Yes feel free, authority granted. I did it to help others, I must say the snip in the lower part of the battery tray seems important as it does crush the wire if you don't, it is only a minor groove but makes a difference. I would have preferred the green wire to be a couple of inches longer following the wiring route I took as it is at full stretch where I placed the controller which tucks in nicely.
As for you Martin, I am doing my best to behave! so be nice

Thanks Discotres, next time i build a batch illmake the wire a couple of incheslonger incase people choose your route for the wires. I had gone inbetween the plactic case and the innerwing when i measured the wire and didnt think to calculate length the other war round
