ok... I waited 3 days, went out at about 7:30pm this evening, and this topic was on it's 4th page of posts.
couldn't get t'internet (possibly just as well as I was the presenter at the meeting ) … came home and we're on page 18.
and NO-ONE seems happy about whatever was announced. Don't think I'll even bother watching it.
DSL … if you've not emptied the wine-rack yet can you tele-port me a nice red ?

Partly because they didn’t announce anything...

the sales figures don’t support the view
They do. Defender sales are presently zero. LR’s opportunity cost in failing to launch a replacement is greater than the sales volume of the previous model, maybe by an order of magnitude if it properly addressed its global market. LR focussed on premium and premium lifestyle because that’s more profitable but it arguably and perhaps understandably mishandled the decision on how to replace Defender and where to build it. Instead of deciding for premium or utility, it should have done both. It had the financial means but lacked conviction. Its response to DC100 market reaction was telling.
HUE 166 was first registered in January 1949.
LR have time to finish building the new factory, do a “reveal” of the new model next January and start deliveries to customers in the summer or autumn 2019, and still cry “happy birthday”.MY91 110 CSW, so long ago I can barely remember it - sold

The wonderful Defender you speak of, was of course, the least selling LR model by some considerable mile. Restructuring as part of a long term strategy and legislation has meant that there is a break between models but that was always factored in. Whether the Defender was part of the doubling of overall volume or not, is not really of any interest.
...if you didn't like the styling of the DC100, then sadly I fear you are going to be disappointed

A few bottles left, honest. If I could have, and had I not gone to bed, I would have tell-ported you a cheeky Zin.
Well that was a complete waste of expectations. Looks like the new Deafener might well be a tad further down the line that was hoped.

Ihtbh, I’m a bit annoyed. I happened to be in my local main dealer yesterday, getting thoroughly spanked by getting my car serviced. The “free health check” made me take a deep breath I can tell you! All consumables, but the quoted prices were silly.
I walked around the showroom in shock, and was genuinely not particularly excited by any of them. Velar is ok, Sport feels er Ok, ffrr not for me, D5 ok but too big. Evoke and DS, erm no chance. There is a big space in the line up that needs to give me the same “yeah I want to do this” feeling that the D3 gave me back in 2004.
Seriously, the best car in the whole place (apart from my D4) was the Jag E Pace. Nice little car.

I quite like DC100 and I hope I’ll like Defender’s replacement. Provided it has a curry hook and a command driving position and room for my elbow on the offside of the cabin, and proper stadium seating and fold flat seats and a decent roofline for a rack and ladder and space for a second battery and and and ... it’ll be job jobbed. So in summary...
JLR raised the expectations of a baying fan base to fever-pitch then dashed their dreams with mundane run-of-the-mill hum drum?
Business as usual then..D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven
Jeeps, Lexus, X-trails... Too many to name..

I’ve seen quite a few new XX60s around and quite like them. Turns out NoDo$h might be a trend setter after all!
