Many thanks, Stu. What more could a 40-something man ask for at 8:30 in the morning!!!! This world is a blessed place.

Did someone mention Land Rover Defender???? Laughing

2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Tonga GreenDiscovery 3

I can only say, my God what a disappointment I have taken one more time! by the way I share and I understand that feeling lived in 2005! I really think we all know what that was and that he felt at the time!! but yesterday It seemed the typical and routine presentation of apple products, overloaded with how beautiful we are, how intelligent and enviable we are with our exclusive plastic and metal wonders!! what a pity!!
 lost in translation!

Let's say the new Defender ends up being more or less like the DC100 (which I really like) beyond the superfans (us) I do wonder how big the appetite is for a Defender out there in the wider public. Loads of Defender fans out there, but I do wonder how many can drop what will almost certainly be at least £30-40K on a new one. Lots of pickup owners who would previously have been in Land Rovers (but again, there will almost certainly be a significant price hike) to a vehicle you won't throw rubble or dead sheep in the back of. The DS and Evoque are probably perfectly pitched at the broader public - can't see the people who buy them being the people who want a Defender. Many who need to tow a caravan and transport kids around, but aren't in love with Land Rovers will probably be perfectly happy in Kias, Ssang Youngs, Hyundais for a fraction of the price. Frustratingly sad though it is, I'd put my money on LR having a better understanding of their market than a superfan like me.

Perhaps the one to watch (which I am doing) is the Projekt Grenadier. Wonder if they'll end up make a 'Disco'.

Top end pickups are that money, my mates RAM was around £70K. There was already a fair bit of interest in the mainstream press about the 70th Birthday; I am shocked they didn't use this date for an announcement of some sort.

Was doing stuff last night so going by the posts on here, thank goodness I didn't waste my life waiting on the 'announcement'.

Just went on to the LR site this morning to have a look for myself and got this vid below.
So, is this it..... is this LR's masterpiece announcement?
A video made by kids, for kids Shocked

What a load of arrogant misguided toss pots LR have turned into. Evil or Very Mad

Here you go, ronp. For what it's worth, I wouldn't waste the time or effort on watching it.

Such a disappointment, could of been so much better, what a wasted opportunity.

I’m pretty sure not one of the people featured have actually bought a Land Rover, they are all sponsored by LR and given vehicles.

Turns out celebrating @FamousFive’s 900th post was the climax Very Happy

Its all corporate willy waving. Get some big names to big you up, and say good things about you (free vehicle in return perhaps?)

I’m going to re watch it later, and count how many times the words “Land Rover” were said.

Here’s a theory. LR never intended to reveal the Defender last night. However they misread the building public furore about the rumours of a surprise unveiling.

Someone high up got wind of what was happening and the delay in the broadcast was pure indecision on what the Censored to do!

They let themselves get backed into a corner. Someone should have nipped the rumours early on, and either done something special, or dampened expectations. Now they are faced with a social media backlash.

Very amateur.

yes, none has ever spent a penny on a landrover vehicle or one of its dealers or workshops, you just have to see they with their suits 2 small sizes and stylish haircut giving the image of 21st century executive ..an horror!

Actually to add to my previous post. I don’t normally pay to much attention to SM outlets, FB and Twitter etc, too many keyboard warriors out there.

However, 5 minutes reading some posts on LR FB has shown me not one positive comment, and a hell of a lot of negative experience.

No responses from LR PR team. I think they have a big bucket of sand in the office this morning!

I assumed the event had happened earlier in the day (based on the lightning conditions) and the delay was simply a technical issue with the feed itself. Have seen it several times before when people who don’t do broadcast every day attempt to DIY.

As for the feedback, if nothing else, the corporate people in the ivory tower might be a bit more aware of what kind of bubble they are living in. Unfortunately, just like with politicians, these things go soon away and it’s back to business as usual..

Well, there is that, yes. As long as JLR makes a profit and Tata Motors is happy there are no issues. Thumbs Up
