Hey guys,
I have the detachable tow bar on my Disco 3 and it has loads of play. It scares me as I pull a trailer up to 3500kg almost every day (it's the reason I bought the Disco). I'm looking at buying the Tow Trust TL1.
I understand I can just fit this tow bar in the socket now used by my detachable tow bar?
Thanks.

The primary part of the Tow Trust bar does fit into the same socket. It feels very sturdy straight away. However the kit is supplied with side arms which bolt to the chassis. It is in my opinion very well made and a fit and forget piece of equipment. I would recommend it. Rich

RRD I had the same problem, which is why I started this thread and did all the homework on possible solutions. I can assure you after some considerable use of this new bar, it has absolutely solved my problems and continues to be a fantastic piece of kit. I would definitely recommend it, especially if towing up to the limit as I also was doing. (which I think is what expedited the failure of the OE bar in my case).
I'd say go for it with confidence. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

When I bought my latest D3 the salesman said they were applying a recall on the detachable LR item hence the number of older cars with new towbars fitted.

I have only been told verbally that they are being recalled, nothing in writing yet.

That's the TSB that's been out for a while now. I have been told the removable towbars are being replaced if there is too much play, although it might take some time.

No this was issued on March 27th and replaces the older TSB21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Thanks DG.
I note that it does not specifically say to replace the tow bar, just implies it with the serial number range (yet to check mine). Mine is a little reluctant to go fully home on my D4 but was fine on my D3, so it could just require the excess paint to be removed.
My other confusion is 'Normal Warranty policies and procedures apply' - my tow bar is not in warranty, but my car is - so what will happen?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Typical that this TSB doesn't cover Aus spec tow bars. Looks like I'm up for buying myself a new one. Mine rattles and the locking pin frequently refuses to lock, or release.
Even though the tow bar itself is different here, I think the release/lock mechanism is common.

I think that is a standard statement they make at that point in all TSB's ...rarely there will be a different instruction in it's place 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Wish i coould say i've got a loose tow ball. When i bought the Disco 2 years ago it came with a detachable fitted but with no key. Anyway, usual method used to release the lever but me can i remove the bloody thing
It wobbles a tiny bit but will not detach. I know the lever works because i can see the securing lever go inside and therefore it should release.
Any ideas anyone??He doesn't ask for much........But gives a lot.
