Just ordered mine as the LR one has a right wobble on it and the dealer recommend a fixed bar instead! No thanks!Current: D3 TDV6 S; GGAT's, DIY 7inch Tablet mount, DIY Reversing Camera, Stage 1 remap, EGR delete

I also tried a Witter fixed hitch but that was also loose because of the wear to the vehicle.
In the end I went to Tow-Trust who repaired the wear by filling it with weld, grinding it flat and I then fitted their LT1 fixed bar with a longer pin for good measure. Very unobtrusive for a fixed bar and really well designed because the locating pin is bolted into place it can't move. In addition the side arms lock the hitch both horizontally AND vertically. Totally solid with no knocking or rattling. Friendly and professional staff too.

Don't be put off by the list price, I paid about half list for the bar only (already had electrics) plus fitting time.
Problem solved, thank you Tow-Trust!
Hi all
I tried fitting the TL1HKF from Tow Trust but essentially I don't seem to have the same groove in my hitch slot as in this pic. I hammered it in as far as I could but there is no way the pin will get through, have a look.
Any advice? Should I grind a path for the pin, risking I might overdo it and then fitting is too loose?

It is difficult to see from that photo, but it looks like your bar is not going high enough into the receiver.D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Ordered the TL1HKF today. Spoke with Mark in the sales office and mentioned that their product was recommended on here. Price delivered to me was 220.56 as their courier adds a £2 surcharge to deliver in Scotland.
As mentioned by others on here, they are a very good company to deal with and I highly recommend them to others.

Hi All,
My D3 had a rattling towbar when I bought it. I had not heard about the problem and did not find it until I started towing.
The bar mechanism was siezed solid I removed it by removing the lock and drive gear. Then bashing the retaining pin from behind with a drift and large modifier.
If I pushed it up firmly into the receiver there was no play, the reason why it rattled was that the pin was not fully extended, proved by trying a borrowed towbar which fit and locked perfectly, as does my replacement.
I suspect some of the problems are due to dirt in the top of the receiver preventing the hitch rising and the pin extending far enough, when fitting. My new one has just perceptible movement. If I tap it upward when fitting it is rock solid.
This said the design is appalling, it should have an indicator pin to show that the locking bar is forward and locked and physical detent on the bar.
One last point on this delightful product, there is concern on the forum about discussing removing the lock for security reasons. I bought replacement keys by number from a google search.
There are 50 at 3£ each from many sources.
I suggest you deface your key ID on the lock, and of course even better, remove your removable bar.

Out of idle curiosity, I tried to fit my tow bar for the first time last weekend. No matter ho hard I pushed, I couldn't get it to go all the way home, but the only thing that didn't look right was that the 'plunger' pin doesn't appear to go all the way in when I pulled/turned the handle. Does everything just need a good clean, or should I be more concerned?
Hi Discologist,
Here are pictures of my new bar with the pin in and out.
If yours has been about a bit it may be worth removing the stainless cover opposite the lock and make shure the grease is clean and dry.

Thanks Bob M, most informative. Looking at the pictures, the pin on mine has the same range of movement so I'm guessing that I need to clean out the socket on the vehicle to allow it to go fully home.
Hi All,
The pin does retract further, needed a ratch about with the green locking knob.
It locks into the towbar when fully retracted, until the top pin is pressed by the carrier.
I have posted another picture, sorry for the confusion.
Discologist I have Pmd you.
Regards
Bob
