Oil filter also holds oil itself, so you would probably need to top
up to bring it upto level again with fresh oil.
If the oil filter needs replacing, your oil needs replacing.
I would never do one without the other.

Thanks a lot for the fast reply. The Oil is brand new (6 days / ca. 500 km). My lovely Dealer in Cameroon just fitted the wrong filter inside. It seems, that the filter is a bit to small, because it's "ratteling". It was the 1st time I wasn't with the repair. So they probably took a cheap one from somewhere else. That's why I just want to replace the filter with an original one.

I would request that the dealer fixed it, free of charge.

Cameroon and free of charge won't fit into one sentence
I'm hoping that this will solve the problem and my Disco will stop ratteling. Thanks for all the help. I will probabely need it quite a lot in the future.

Possibly another silly question.
Is it best to run the engine first to warm the oil up to allow it flow better, or does it make no difference?
Thanks

I'd always warm engine first as the viscosity of the oil is less when warm and it will flow better but you need a glove on to pull the sump plug

Hi to all
Went to my indie today to change the oil & filter.
6 lt of castrol edge 5/30 used ( as always) and britpart filter.
Ive noticed that when i start the engine the red oil indicator remains for a second or two, giving the warning noise, then disappears and all is ok. Is this nornal?? Oil change has been done before 50 miles, oil indicator shows normal oil level.
Ive done over 10 oil changes during the last 7 years...its the first time that this happens..
Cheers

It does take a few seconds for oil pressure to build particular on old oil pump.
saying that if you've never seen the Light before I'd be a bit wary that the filter hasn't quite been put on straight and restricting flow a little
Can you check filter yourself or get indie to look?

I read that there is supposed to be a black plastic tube in the middle of the filter but I didn't see any when I took the top screw on housing off? If so can you buy a replacement?

Got down to do the change this afternoon. Two bolts rounded off with no effort and another spinning, two more missing.
Have searched for replacement 13mm bolts but can't locate them. Any ideas or is it a call to AF first thing Monday morning with a description.
Trip to the garage to get the plate removed. At least next time it will be easy.
