V8 Differences
I changed the oil and filter on my V8 yesterday. The only major difference is that to get to the oil filter you have to unbolt the metal radiator shield under the body, immediately in front of the main underbody shield.
There isn't a huge amount of space to use an oil filter wrench but I used one like this http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/prod..._6692.html which worked fine. Also the oil filter was a plastic thingamy all in one piece. No paper to take out.

How often should the oil be changed? Sooner than between annual services?

It's all down to personal preference really, some people are happy to abide by the scheduled service intervals whilst others would rather it went on for more between changes !
Owner / Enthusiasts tend to cherish their vehicles a little and believe that regular oil changes help with the preventative maintenance route that land Rover enthusiasts have to embrace
I personally believe that changing the Oil regularly does the engine and turbo a whole heap of good, I do mine at 7:5k religiously, I do 90% mtwy driving so I feel that this is enough.
If I did stop start short journeys I would do an Oil change every 5k !
That's just me, we're all different as the saying goes !Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Yep, you need either a dealer, a service reset tool, a faultmate or a Hawkeye. I think one manufacturing year allowed you to do it via a complicated button press procedure, but not yours.
Perhaps there some other options out there now?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Aglewis - contact Flack (site sponsor) I think he's near you and can offer a range of 'extras' for the D3 including service reminder reset/removal - he's a good guy and sensible prices

Thanks to everyone for this, it is a great post, as next weekend I am changing the oil for the first time as a DIY’er (as opposed to taking it to my stealer).
Like many on here I am a great believer in changing the Oil at half the manufacturer recommended millage (my father drummed in to me as child that the most important maintenance on a car is the oil & filter change, I think that was right and it has always stuck with me!).
I have always done this on my BMW 525i which I bought from new an it has just passed 230k miles on the clock!

Sorry, I‘m new and have maybe a stupid question. Is it possible just to remove the filter without an oilchange? Or is the oilspilling out of the filter and the complete engine will be dirty? Thanks for the help

You could just take the filter off if there was a problem with it but if its due an oil change always change the oil and the oil filter Oil tends to degrade over time although 'new' fully synthetics are far superior it would be tempting disaster just to change the filter!
