Can someone please clarify something for me regarding the safety recalls for the vacuum system and the fuel pump bearing failure, Recall Action No P008 and P017.
I have read through both and note that the recall notice themselves contain ranges of Specific VIN Numbers of affected vehicles but the sample customer letter - Appendix 2 to Recall Notice 008, shows the complete range of vin no's from 2005 to April 2007.
My vin is within the range of the latter range but is not included in the former. My car is showing all the signs detailed in the recall notice but I didn't have time to check for the presence of oil before it went into the dealers.
What I want to know - having re-read the recall notices again is this; Is the decision of what action to take on any particular vehicle whether in or out of the vin sequence, up to the dealer or should / would the dealer check whether the car is showing signs of the failure / problem identified and would they refer this back to LR themselves..
I feel I may not be getting the full story and attention as: -
A) They have 2 D3's already in the workshop having the recall work done
B) In 2 days of having my car (it was booked in the day before) nothing has yet been done
C) No one can tell me what the situation is with the items the LRA Techie noted until they have a chance to look at it
D) I was told it is unlikely that I will have my car back this week despite being told that I needed it back by Thursday at the very latest!
I also suspect that I am being given the second class citizen treatment because I didn't buy it from them, they do not service it and if this visit and the visit before for other warranty issues is anything to go by they won't be servicing it as I am not filled with confidence...
Thoughts / ideas / advice welcome.....FORECAST FOR TONIGHT: things have happened out there!!!

Dealers will be told to not let the car go until it is fixed and if they don't have the parts then they hold onto the car till they do.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Had a look on VOSA and it is 31st October 2005 onwards for the recall and I think 06 models came out in September, so mine is just outside the range despite not being registered until the very end of December 2005
Countrywide Mine is 2007 and in the overall range but not in the specific ranges mention on the recall notice.
What's worrying me is that for 2 days they had the car, knew it was booked in, had put a copy of the recall notice into the job file, but had not done anything with it which considering I was Bala bound this weekeknd has really ticked me off and now it looks like I won't be able to go.... Hi,WasnotWas, I rang LR Customer Service to ask if the parts in my August/Sept build D3 were any different to the parts in the recall as my VIN was to early for the recall. They rang back and asked me to book it in with my dealer and they will liase with them. It goes into Ripon on monday. I have oil in the vacuum pipe and I have experienced "hard" pedal on a few occasions. Incidently there is no difference in part numbers but can anyone check if a "batch" issue has been raised.

Recall for brakes question?
Having just noticed the recall issued 28/09/09 for the brakes and looking at whats needed to rapair, would it require new brake fluid as part of the repair?
Not one to save a few quid but ours needs the fluid done and maybe free!

They did with mine, but my D3 VacPac failed. If the fault is found on yours, oil contamination, I would think they would change the fluid.
