km's to miles (distance covered) |
|
hi all,
i have a 2008 disco 3, the problem i have is that the distance covered reads in km and i would like to change it to miles. i have been to a landrover specialist with autologic and he says his tool can't do it as he can't change the build code data and i may need to buy new clocks if i want the reading in miles. is this true?? can no one change something as simple as that??

Sorry - should have guessed by the name
Not sure on the difference - just interested
A mate had a Merc in Eire that had miles when it went in for a service and Km's when it came out - similar issue - though vice-versa
Out of interest - where are you near in Manchester - I'm in Stockport

You need a new clock or we could swop I looked into this 2 years ago and found loads of instrument clusters in km fir sale with delivery km's. Not seen any with miles, it's possible but not worth the effort in my opinion, most D3 sold in Ierland clusters are in km and are sold in UK without problems! A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

i have found a way to do this now.
the way i did it was, i bought a used set of uk clocks (does not really matter about conditon as it is only one chip that you need) removed the rear white casing so you can see the circuit board, on there you will see a large multi legged chip and about 3cm below there you will see an 8 legged eeprom chip, this holds mileage / service / language data. on a car with km km / service / language data is held.
so what you need to do next is make a record of what the km's are on your clocks then remove the chip from the clocks with km's and replace it with the chip holding mileage data. now once you have done this you will notice that the clocks are showing miles now, but they will be the miles from the donor set, so your next step is to find you local dash doctor / mileage correction company and get them to adjust the mileage to your converted km's from your earlier recording.
job done, you now have miles showing on your clocks. don't worry about your key losing it's code as that data is held somewhere else on your clocks.
another way i have though about but not tested is this:- all clocks from factory can be programmed to show either miles or km's upto a certain distance once this distance has been covered then it can't be changed. so what if we for example record our km's lets say 40,000km then have the km's adjusted by mileage correction company to zero, then with the help of fault mate have the km's changed to miles (there is the option on there), then have the correction company wind the miles back on with the converted amount 24,854.84 miles.
as i say this second option has not been tested by me yet, but as soon as it has i'll let you all know. or if anyone else try's it please let me know.
hope this helps
