I’m sure you’d not want to stifle the opinions of others, good or bad, though.
Ah but that is the thing, most people nowadays care a great deal what others think of them, if the did not they would buy a Dacia Duster.
I don't drive a Dacia Duster because it's not the comfortable, effortless go anywhere vehicle that my RRS is. It also won't tow SWMBO horse trailer.
If I cared what others thought, I wouldn't drive the RRS. Heck, people still think the RRS is a footballer's car which is rubbish off road / in snow...
If I just wanted a little cheap 4wd runabout, the Duster would be on the list, along with the Jimny, that's for sure. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

A work colleague traded in his BMW 3 Series for a Duster. He loves it but he took a white one and apparently they are prone to rust issues. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I have to smile when I read some of the negative posts re the D5. I loved my D4 and used it for all sorts, however it wasn’t without its flaws, though I was very sad to part with it.
After a year in my D5, I really can’t think of a better car for my needs. It’s seriously comfortable, reasonably economical with decent performance, and, controversially, looks good. I’d even suggest it’s better all round than the D4, certainly so far it is much more reliable, touch wood.
Bloody expensive though.

Not sure I said it does suit everyone, just giving a different opinion for a bit of balance.
The world would be boring if we all liked the same things.

I had it for a 48 hour test drive. Its a really good car and does everything I need now. I just don't need the capability of a Discovery any more or seven seats etc. and the Toureg fits the bill really well. Its comfortable, the kit and spec are excellent and the price is significantly better than a D5 whether I buy it outright or PCP it. Its also the same car underneath as the Bentyaga and new Q7.
One of the other positives is that I don't need to go near a LR dealer. We recently bought a VW T-Cross for my wife. Its a brilliant car and the service and support from the dealer has been excellent, which is in total contrast to the local LR dealer. When a dealer lies to you and tries to deceive you then you know its not someone you want to business with. Besides, there is nothing in the LR stable that appeals to me . My only decision now is whether I wait for the Toureg Hybrid or not.
Why not take one out on a 48 hour test drive and see for yourself? New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

They are good, a friend has one and I like it a lot.
Lack of split tailgate, boot size and off road ability (perhaps unfounded) put me off owning one though. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Don’t do test drives, even for the D5 I didn’t take one. Mixture of the dealer doesn’t really appear interested and the fact I can’t stand all the BS sales patter after a test drive.
Did look at T Cross for SWMBO, but it looked a bit utilitarian so went for a Mazda thing instead. Again no test drive. She seems to like it. I don’t think it has much of a boot, but the model we got has a HUD, heated steering wheel and various other things as standard.

You don’t consider a test drive a worthwhile exercise when making such a big purchase?

Not taking a test drive could have any number of consequences. That would allow a manufacturer to palm off a complete and utter dud on the unsuspecting 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

Okay, my present home I had built for me so I knew what I was getting. I did look at the land before hand. Would I look at a pre owned house before purchase? Dunno, I know quite a few that haven’t for one reason or another.
Re a car, no not really. A car is a car to some degree and any niggles would be sorted out under warranty or the thing gets rejected. I look at online websites for photos and info. I haven’t test driven a car for 20 to 30 years and that would have been for a second hand car. It’s literally a lot of bother to arrange a time we are both off, got our licences and can justify spending half a day mooning over a car with an errant sales person surgically attached and then the phone calls to chase you up. I’ve also seen myself wandering round LR showroom and no one bothers to speak to you and if they do, they don’t offer a test drive anyway.

You don't like it when the sales people ignore you and you don't like it when they pay attention to you.
How would you like them to behave? 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
