Absolutely spot on... glad to hear they are finally making it out for delivery!
I think I need to have a bit of a mither at the dealer - spoke to him a few weeks back to be told that my build date is 18th May but that the system is showing as delivery being in the first week of July! He had some vague reason regarding the delay but I think it was dealer-speak for clueless...
C'mon LR... it shouldn't have to be this hard to spend money with you, after all, it will be my third Commercial!D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

Everyone happy with their D5 Commercials a few months in?
My D4 is now at the point where I need to start planning whats next.
Had planned to hold out for the new Defender but latest reports this week say that will be 2020. Not sure I like the rear end of it either from the disguised pics I've seen this week
D5 is over budget for me but I can stretch to an SE with a few bits on it.
The alternative is probably going to be a top spec Amarok but really don't want a pick up.

Do you need towing capacity?
If not Volkswagen transporter t6 4motion.
Just replaced one of my D4’s with one.
Not the same driving experience, but does same job as it’s predecessor.
JLR has lost the plot and my custom.Discovery commercial tdv6 auto 2013

Rarely tow 3.5 tonnes but tow a lot. All our trailers are plated at 2.7t or 3.5t so technically illegal even if they're empty.
Always off road and don't think the Transporter would cut it unfortunately.

OK... here goes...
In terms of driving experience, it's 'better' than the D4 but even this takes a bit of qualifying - it's quicker off the mark and fuel consumption is better so you could view this as win-win...
However, to my mind, it's a bit more 'crashy' over bumps (could this be down to the lower profile tyres or the lower overall weight of the vehicle) and certainly seems to be more influenced by crosswinds etc whilst at motorway speeds - overall, not quite so planted as the outgoing D4's.
Biggest issue (to me) would be the rear tailgate aperture - it recently failed the 'can-I-take-the-dead-dishwasher-to-the-tip' test - I've become a past master of buying large white goods at well known retailers and smugly saying "I'll take it now.." to be faced with, "Ah, but Sir will need a large car..."
Smug look with D4, not so bloody smug with the D5...
And then there's the oil dilution - I won't hang the dealer or JLR (yet) but to find the vehicle calling for an oil service at somewhere less than 5k miles is not acceptable. I strongly suspect oil dilution but am confident the dealer will deny this and so the verdict is still out...
So, what else - well, next Defender (663) will be with us sooner than you know - if I was in decision-making mode, I'd be very tempted to hang onto the D4 and see what comes out in the not too distant future.
My current D5 Commercial is on a 4 year lease - I'm likely to bang it back in when they reveal 663 to the public...D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

Right, thats good to know.
I've also done the white goods trick but didn't realise the D5 can't pull that off (not a deal breaker). Slightly lower roofline at the rear?
Have read about the oil dilution and I guess I'd take my chances with it and keep my fingers crossed.
Interesting what you say about the Defender (663). Have you some inside info?
I had a hunch that these pictures could even be a bit of a hoax. I know its heavily disguised but something just seems wrong about it to me. https://www.topgear.com/car-news/first-loo...r-defender
Also, can't believe it will be 2020 before these are available. Just seems far too long.
Originally, when the D5 was launched, LR's line was, no commercial variant would be available and that gap would be plugged by one of the Defender models. Could probably hang on until mid 2019 if I had too but prob no longer!

Rear roofline is definitely lower, making the overall aperture slightly smaller - as you say, not a complete deal breaker, but a slight pain in the posterior...
Oil dilution is a concern - I had a new engine in the last D4, all done under warranty, and will be watching this one closely just in case we experience problems with this one.
I knew that a D5 Commercial was on the cards but came perilously close to ordering an XC-90 Hybrid before they announced the current model!D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

The noise transmission from the road is different for sure but you can't go from the D4's platform to the D5's without compromise ...the D4 was always slated for its weight so, as in my case, shedding 600+kg was always going to mean a new resonance.

The 2lt D5 doesn’t suffer oil dilution, the 3lt is susceptible, but nothing apparently onerous.
Generally I find a lot of die hard D3/4 owners are merely reciting a lot of scare stories with little substance.
