Can't help but cringe with imaginary pain when I see that square edge on the tailgate.
I've bumped my head many a time on a tailgate, but a bump on the D5 tailgate would probably be my last one. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Whilst the corners are somewhat exposed, I'm not too convinced that they are at 'forehead height' - the vehicle is supposed to have an overall height of 1.89m and the corners sit above the roofline so potentially around 2m or more.
2m is 6' 6" so if this is forehead height, then I don't want to be upsetting you...
What I do find slightly concerning is that the list price of the outgoing D4 Commercial was £36k or so plus VAT and the cheapest version is now £40,333 plus VAT, an increase of 11% or so and if I look at my preferred option of 3.0L, SE (so rather more of a direct comparison as this has the same spec), it comes in at £45,333 which is an increase of 25%+!!!

Waiting now to see what the costs are going to come in at with discounts etc and then see whether we can un-knit the order that's just been placed for the Volvo...D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

I don't reckon the corners sit above the roofline and whilst they might not be forehead height, I'm pretty sure they'd cause a good ding on the skull of my 6' 2" frame!...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I’ve heard those corners are low and if the D5? Is in access height or on a slope it’ll come within most people’s heads. That said I rubbed my nose with the D3 upper tailgate as I closed it once 1/4” further forward and I’d have smashed my nose and probably caught my glasses as well.

£54k for the SE commercial, the same cost as my current one, I spend most of the time in the D5 on my own anyway and there will be plenty room for the dog.
I may consider it next year, but then there’s that odd occasion where I use the 7 seats so perhaps not.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
