The Dundonian wrote:+1 for the D4. Times move on however and so do our choices in vehicle.
The main problem I have with the D5 apart from cosmetic crap, is the price to get an acceptable spec and the accelerated depreciation.
This is exactly where I am. I love my D4, it is unquestionably the best car I’ve ever owned for so many reasons. I’m not as offended by the D5 as some but to get a reasonable spec I’m looking at £55k. This added to the residual figure doesn’t stack up for me.
Not sure where to go now to be honest, but I need to seriously think about changing this year due to the mileage I do.

I guess you are talking about PCP and GFV?
The GFV's quoted on the LR builder hopefully are very conservative, time will tell in a couple of years when the early cars are 3 years old?

My sister was looking at changing her D4 for a D5 as a cash buyer. However, the fleet manager at BIL company told her to stay well clear: Residuals are very poor and there is already talk in the trade of issues with oil dilution and potential engine failure.
I do wonder if JLR have shot themselves in the foot moving from their core market to compete in the yummy mummy mass market. Time will tell.
I no longer see the brand as 'land rovers' but more school run cruisers. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

I can confirm trade in value is poor, originally offered £40k for mine @10 months old, £54k purchase price, though selling my spec with higher mileage and 2.0 for £47k. My dealers putting it down to the current state of affairs, anti diesel, Brexit etc.
Though apparently their Edinburgh site, can’t get used ones for love nor money. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

J77, trade in after the first year hits any car badly. I know I made a "mistake" a year or so ago and it cost me dearly.

The oil dilution problem is the one to worry about and affects Sports, Disco Sport etc as well.

£14k was still steep. I’ve changed many cars after a year and that’s been the worst offer. Eventually got more but it was a shock. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

US Car sales article 8 jan 2018
"Like many other economic indicators, the continued growth of sales at Land Rover suggests 2017 was a pretty good year. Land Rover’s US operations delivered a total of 74,739 vehicles during the past year, surpassing the previous record set in 2016 by 898 units.
As in past years, the Range Rover Sport accounted for the largest percentage of sales by model, with 19,153 units retailed. Not far behind was the full-size Range Rover with 16,869 sales. The Discovery Sport has recently been a strong performer as well, exceeding the Range Rover Sport in December and hanging with its bigger stablemate for most of the year.
Sales figures for the new Discovery have been largely absent from the monthly reports (we’re looking into this) but seem to be trailing significantly behind the rest of the range"
This confirms my experience, in looking for sales performance, LR are not publishing sales of the D5.

Wait for the annual report, there tends to be a breakdown per model

To be honest, who really cares. It either sells or it doesn’t. The only loser is LR. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

That’s interesting that the figures for the Discovery should show such an increase from Dec 16 to Dec 26. But wasn’t Dec 16 three months after the old one went out of proction and three months before deliveries of the new one started? 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!

Basically confirms what people think, the D5 is struggling and only selling the same number of units as the FFRR. The good news is that F Pace and Velar are doing well so JLR is making up for the D5 miss with good growth elsewhere. I just think it's a shame that the only full size 7 seater they make was not replaced with more thought as they have lost many repeat customers like myself. 2014MY Discovery

According to the figures for the fiscal year to date, which are the only comparable numbers when both cars were in full production in the relevant year
April - Dec 2016 ( D4 ) 33,659
April - Dec 2017 ( D5 ) 34,472
