Oz sales targets for D5’s achieving 43% of budget, 10 fold increase of near new DS going to wholesale auctions, UK factory shutdowns, JLR 2.9 billion pound write down in dec quarter and rumours of fire sale of JLR to a European competitor

Nothing to see here.

It's not a defence.... it's just a reality....hard figures and info from official reporting and 'on the ground' sources . I'm not saying operations are perfect given the market conditions.... but overall JLR have bigger fish to fry than worrying about a tiny market segment like Aus Thumbs Up

Fact is that JLR is a relatively small player in the car industry. I hav no figures, I'm not experienced in hurdling
the figures through managerial proverbal hoops, but too many signs are there to ignore.

JLR has a massive issue with the failing of the diesel market and does not correct timely to new
market conditions. I've bean mawning to my dealer [ & dealers to the importer and the importer
to the main office..] for about 5 years now, and they barely twitched. In some EU countries market
condions are odd, but strange enough these oddities fall in line in a twisted EU/Green/CO2 way of
thinking...

They introduced a tdV6 engine / hybrid, as a reponse to audi/bmw/volvo hybrids. While they should have then focussed
on a 1.8L petrol with a larger electrical engine for acceleration and instant power. Now they are almost ready developing a
3 cylinder hybrid, but it won't go into RR/RRS/Velar , only into EQ/DS and probably E-Pace and XE.
They need a 4 cylinder serious hybrid instead of the P400e. Its all kind of "too-little-too-late, I'm afraid.

Tata is a big company. You never can tell how sentiments change and where they need the money for.
Can just be that Tata want to generate cash for a completely other purpose then investment in industry.

Kind of billionairs version of " ..done that, been there.." ..

Yes agree ..they have already demonstrated their further commitment and all the signals are that they are in it for the long term. Time will tell.

One of the issues with hybrid tech is the need to find a partner as the costs for a company the size of JLR are too great to truly go it alone.

Current approach is working with the same supplier as for BMW, but that's an accountant led approach and it's resulted in a lot of aborted trials due to the kit not being sufficiently offroad capable. Question is, who out there will make hybrid kit sufficiently robust for the use-case for JLR offroad?

Toyota have economies of scale throughout their range that mean their offroad kit can still be old tech polluting stuff without too much impact on the bottom line. JLR don't have that luxury. If they're to get through this they need to accept that class-leading offroad and scalable hybrid technologies are a niche and can't be deployed at a market-acceptable price in the more road-oriented SUV market.

My prediction? The divide between Discovery and Defender branches will start small and grow into a chasm, with Disco gradually losing some of the rock-crawling, mud-plugging capability as standard, it instead being a fairly high cost option.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Its now the manufacturer of the autobox that makes the electric engine combo.
As well number of gears as electric power and torque are comparable with BMW.

Since BMW and JLR need a smaller [cheaper] autobox with less power,
it is to be expected that ZF concept will be scaled down for X3/X1 and DS/EQ size,
maybe E-Pace and XF as well.

My understanding is that the iPace powerplant is developed and designed inhouse and the hybrid lines are almost complete at i54 ...also theres a battery assembly plant about to open in North Warks.

And my understanding is the iPace driveline doesn't meet the requirements for off-road capability Thumbs Up
