Its not more diluted : there are more products on offer...

And a strong brand channels the wider flow in her OWN sales channels, not those of Volvo/BMW, who ALSO had SUV's when the D3 arrived..

Look ate Mercedes ; they still have the SAME MODEL SUV, and it sells better then the D5....
Don't change tactics when you are on a winning streak..

There’s now a larger choice of small and midsize 4x4 SUV’s, but are there any more full sized 5 or 7 seaters now? Of course the models are new ones, but the direct competition remains the same doesn’t it?

ETA-The Shogun is still the same model 😳

Exactly my point !

Only the D3 / XC 90 / BMW X5 / Touareg were the full size then. Now volume shifts to XC90..

I also look at the XC 90 as the prices are far more realistic.

After the BREXIT the import duties come on top of those prices , and no D5 will be sold again,
unless they transfer production to Hungaria or such..

Just look at the news at what Harley Davidson is doing ; transfer capacity to the end markets.

Not here. The XC90 has far less CO2 output and thats where they're taxed on, so the end price is 15% lower.

I think JLR overplayed their hand by RAISING prices in 2017 & 2018, while the exchange GBP/EURO went way lower .

They should have slightly reduce the prices, still make more profit in GBP, ánd gain market share...

THEY WERE TOO GREEDY..

Now they try to offload cars with 35% discount : one year old DS was list 72k now for 47k , with only 8800km and no 1st owner.. registered in 2017.
That s equal to normally 3 years depreciation. They ruin the market now : first buyers write of 35% too , customers they'll loose.
Dealers are stuck with too expesive trade ins, and the diesel bann , ánd the DPF for petrol cars outdating the rest of the stock..

Not to mention the new way of measuring the CO2 output.. Just 20 gr CO2 extra translates into a 10K RISE in taxation.
One thing JLR if not good at, its fuelconsumption hence CO2 output..

They made their own perfect storm.


Other thing : curb weight. An Evoque cabrio weighs more then an XC90 , so you pay monstrous amounts of roadtax as that is based on the weight ..

Volvo [ the chinese ] play it smart ; a tweeky bit less topnotch tech for a knock down price...
Like the old japcars were, but now they run the show next door instead other face of the world..


The future is grimm for JLR on the continent, unless they rake it in with the I-Pace quickly.

I Just read some sales figures in Oz,
From memory, LR, were aiming at 350 sales a month.

Late 2018, they were lucky to move 150 month.


And the other thing I have noticed is an avalanche of Late model disco sports being dumped at the wholesale auctions.

Last year there would be 5-6 DS a week going to auction, this week it is over 60, and they are not selling as they have near retail buy it now prices instead of wholesale. I reckon LR, are putting new stock into LR corporate cars an then dumping them to auction after 5-10000kms, to generate turnover.

That doesn't only happen in Oz. We have regularl cars sold at auction,
but bidding goes far to high as most don't have a clue what's hanging over the market.

Now I see 2015/2016 return to dealers that punt them on the market at 50% original
sales price but give 2yr guarantee. With this they kill grey import compitition.
Loads fo diesels will flood the market here since Germany wants to rid them..
