The “stock” is what happens when dealers are unable to sell the production slots that are allocated to them in time. There comes a point where the spec has to be fixed and it’s down to the dealer to come up with the spec that they think will have the broadest appeal, which is why so many monochrome ones become available as new, or pre registered, stock. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

^Exactly this. I never specced any of the 4 brand new Discoverys that I've bought since 2006. All of them were vehicles that the dealer had already ordered but not yet received. I never waited for more than a week or two for them. Yes, all of them black or grey. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I just found LR Australia's Dec 17 sales, 204 Discovery's sold.
(I'm not sure if there is peaks and troughs in new Land rovers arriving in Australia, given it takes over 6 weeks to arrive by boat from the UK)
I seem to recall that LRA was aiming at 350 sales per month, as they were so excited as they could now compete for buyers in the premiuim SUV market
in 2016, Disco 4 sales were around 250 a month.

Been contacted by two dealers this week inviting me to get my D4 appraised against a D5 for March 1st delivery. Offering upto £6.5k discount on a lux before we even start negotiations. The rep at my local was new and didn't know my history which will be on their records along with the clear instruction i am not buying one so dont bother trying
I guess this means they have cars on the way for the next plate they have not sold. MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
MY12 HSE - Gone
MY16 HSE Luxury - Sold
MY20 D5 HSE - Sold

Guess we can all 'to and fro' with these theories around the D5, I think it comes down to the fact that the D3 was pretty revolutionary, some loved it from day one (me included) others hated the slab looks but whatever your view it was a pretty unique and special offering with no serious competition at the time.
The D5 is probably a superb car to drive and own but it now blends in to a crowded market so doesn't stand out in the way the D3 did, certainly doesn't stir the emotion, couple that with an ever soaring price bracket and this probably put lots of people off.
JLR have moved upmarket and left some of us behind unfortunately but that's business.

No it's less per month but with the trade and discount it wasn't far off tbh ...losing 2 cylinders helps

I ordered an F-Type, while looking for a replacement for my D3... ..weird choise, but as I looked for the best lumbar/bolster adjustment 'in-the-house' , thats were I ended..
Your choices are managed by requirements, so before less then 4 seats were a no-go zone.
Because with a family one tends to take the spectrum of chores in account and one of my previous cars [ an MG-F] posed a problem in taking 3 kids to daycare....
Driving up and down, leaving 2/1 behind... But that was back in 1999...
Now with kids ready to leave the nest, we tend to drive only the two of us.
So I bought an F-Type. Then last week discovered about EURO 6C : dust particle filters for petrol cars..
Seems to be obligatory as of october 2018. Some manufacturers already deliver cars with this fitted.
It seems JLR are holding out to the last instant...
So I tried to delay the production date to after they started making the DPF version....
Got a firm "no" as an answer... Followed by :" .. even to change your order to a D5 we wouldn't.. ".
I guess that summerizes how even inside JLR thought are about sales figures of the D5...

Blimey, an F-Type! That’s a heck of a change!! I was lucky enough to drive a V8 version a few years ago and it was, by a big margin, the most fun I’ve ever had driving a car
If their comment about delaying it and changing to a D5 was unprompted, then that’s very telling 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

MEA is indeed mostly Nissan Patrols, Nissan Armadas, Toyota Landcruisers (Prado or the larger one) country if you ignore the American Suburbans, Tahoes and Yukons.
In Riyadh one used to see a some FFRR and RRS cruising the access roads around King Fahad but hardly ever any out in the desert.
I always thought it was surprising but a local friend explained that the Toyotas and Nissans hardly ever break down and if they do there are plenty of spare parts in every village service shop. I used to go every now and then to check out the selection at the car souq in on Khurais road and there were rarely any LR products at the independent used cars places.

Just another reason to choose an XC90 if going diesel
Volvo XC90 has been Euro 6d-TEMP compliant on their D5 since November 2017, and this new standard is starting to become more important as many German cities are planning to make this the min diesel standard, and I am sure others will follow.
Sadly JLR are quiet on their planned compliance to this!
