Was thinking about doing this and had a quick scout about, these people
http://www.quantek.co.uk/GSM%20Remote%20Control.html
seem to have a GSM control which will switch two relays for £109. So, if the fuel burning heater uses one circuit, any good ideas for what to put on the second?D3 2.7 TDv6 HSE, 2005 in silver.

That's the one I've been looking at - unless you need another output, then I think it should be fine.Mark.

Righty .. I've just sat & read all 26 pages (Again) - am now frazzled.
So, are people still fitting the timer in the car? (where is normal? - in the bit above the stereo with the lights in?) or are people just using the timer to effectively 'push the button' via the GSM doo-dah's? (thus having everything in the engine bay). Part of me thinks having it in the cabin might be handy at some point but not sure why TBH.
What's the concensus on the GSM modules? - what's best\cheapest (I appreciate they may not be the same). I like the idea of remote control for it but don't want an RF fob inaddition to the landy one. Has anyone tried using the 3rd button on the fob? - eg set to pop the tailgate but intercept & fire the timer?
Cheers!56 HSE

I have a DG suggested box, fitted behind the cranking battery under the wiper panel. All fitted by TFC

Just to add to the confusion
My timer is fitted where the sun roof switches are normally located ( don't have sunroof ) Easy job to run cable up the door pillar at the side of the airbag.
This means I can still use the timer and in certain circumstances its easier to use the timer rather the the gsm module. e.g leaving work at a set time you can have it heated and switched off before you open the car. Avoiding the problem of the car having a fight with the timer for control of the FBH.
Using the RF fob to contol the timer is a tall order but would have little advantage as your range to switch the timer on/off is very limited. Unless you are always very close to the car, which I am not.
Ian.

macleod - oohh I was thinking that it would need to all be in a waterproof box etc - is yours just tucked away instead?
I've just found this one from a link someone posted earlier http://www.rfsolutions.co.uk/acatalog/call2open.html
it suggests that it has 2 outputs & is waterproof - anyone else using one? (it's slightly cheaper, unless someone has a cheap deal for the dial2open ones)56 HSE

As in the Photo, neatly tucked away.............Does'nt get wet and should'nt matter if it did as the box is identical as DG's link, and designed to be in the elements.
Anyhow, you go wading that deep its bye bye D3......
TFC - Iain, fitted mine. He does 3 types of fitment.
1. Timer only - its the oval black item in the pic. Usually fitted where the sunroof controls are
2. Remote - You get a Key fob with the timer and you can instantly fire it up
3. GSM - Mobile or landline, phone da D3 and toasty when arrived.
It will as always be a popular modification for D3 owners now the winter is approaching, drop TFC and email to enquire and book a fitment before too many go for it

I have not a tick of power to my webasto timer
Anyone know where TFC might have put a fuse on his Sim operated webastor timer yokeymebob? I know he's gone to Tunbridgewells or the likes so off air so to speak A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.
Yarp, Iain is out of the country for a couple of weeks so please don't be too upset if you don't hear from him within 20 seconds of sending him an email. As Jason says, a very popular and worthwhile modification and worth getting it done properly by a man who knows. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've now removed mine to add a GSM remote (currently on RF) and relocate somewhere visibly (boot panel - was in engine bay).
