Thanks very much, will get on with it shortly,we were wondering why they did not put a remote on the Disco, as it seems a expensive bit of kit to skimp on a remote method of operation.
Again thanks for your help Rick

After having a play around with the gsm control i have managed to change the password and have set my iphone as number 1 on the whitelist.
But the slight snag i have is when i activate access mode on (my iphone being on whitelist) it will ring and hangup as usual but its not switching the heater on.
If i ring from another phone it will not ring at all .
But if i turn access mode off, ie so any number can ring the gsm control it will turn the heater on perfectly.
I would prefer to have my whitelist numbers to work only !
what am i doing wrong?

wiggs wrote:Does your gsm unit output a W-BUS signal ...i dont think so ....thats why you need the webasto timer as this does .
The W-BUS signal is needed to turn the FBH on
I used the gsm unit on the first page of the post
Wiggs i am no expert but maybe this may overcome this problem whats your german like as operating instructions only DE at present or maybe some other members may be able to help.

I have seen it before It is basically the same as the oval timer , but proberly more expensive . You still need to get 12volts to it ..so would still need a remote or GSM unit G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Its about 79 euros I dont know what the oval timer costs but with this and the GSM unit above which has its own switching timer I thought it may be an easier mod as no need to have anything inside the vehicle just under the bonnet

Also the gsm unit you have linked to .. Requires a mobile phone connected to it via a data cable .. So it's ending up with 3 bits and a bigger box G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The link should be a link to a w-bus converter that just turns a 12v signal into a w-bus signal the mobile phone thing is different but on the same page I believe it uses the mobile instead of the GSM receiver.

Yes it does. You actually call the mobile which is connected to the box which sends the W-bus signal to the heater.
The box also offers a programmable duration of the signal. So you can have your heater shut down automatically after a cetain time, say 30 min. or so.
@ wiggs: what happens when you fire up the heater by call and then turn on ignition and start the engine? Will it shut down or will it keep running and then shut down when the coolant reaches 75° as "normal"?
Thanks for your great contributions Life in the slow lane

As soon as you unlock and open a door the timer will be overridden and the heater turned off. If the coolant and external temps are still low enough the D3 will fire it up again when you start the engine The End
