| Landcruiser 200 v’s Discovery 3 |

With the new LC200 arriving in shows rooms this month I guess it is time to start comparing the two. I have not seen one in the flesh, I have only just viewed the Toyota web site.
I will start things off.
With fuel prices on track for $1.50 I am surprised the LC200 are only available in V8 motors
Kinematic suspension = D2 Active cornering system.
LC200 Looks UGLY
LC200 comes in 17 inch tyres , (Good thing)
Crawl feature? Not sure about this, (only available on petrol models)
LC200 Interior finish, much better than D3.
I look forward to the 4wd mags doing the head to head comparisons in the next few months.

Saw one at the Motor show, exactly the same as the Lexus but no adjustable suspension.
Hydraulic roll bar like the old disco 2 (ACE), live rear axle, front now springs instead of torsion bar. Crawl control available only on petrol  will be three years before available on diesel. 
Diesel V8 4.5 litre 600 nm with a twin turbo (RRS FFRR TDV8 3.5l- 64 nm across reva range with single turbo) not sure of the pwer but I understand it is not much better than previous.
The rear seats still fold to the side and eat into load space.
A lot more than the 100 series and hensea lot more than the D3. They say it is bigger than the 100 but damned if I know what they have done with the space.
They haven't let any journos drive it yet and are only giving demos. Even Joshua Dowling (SMH Toyota salesman) wasn't even waxing lyrical about it.
I was underwhelmed but I am sure many will buy because it is a Toybota. I expected them to do more with a completely new model but glad they didn't (better for D3 residuals)  “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Shouldn't we be comparing the D3 to the Prado instead of the LC200? Weight wise, though it is in the same class as the LC200. In terms of value for money, the LC200 is expensive!!! '06 Disco 3 TDV6 SE Buckingham Blue

Is the LC200 the one they sell as the Amazon in the UK or is it something bigger?
They sell the Prado as the Land Cruiser but I know we get a much smaller range of LC's compared to Oz The End

No I would say the D3 is more comparable to the LC200. The LC 200 is slightly bigger than the D3 but it has the same interior space as the old LC100 which the LC200 replaces.
I looked at Prados, Pajeros, cherrekees and 100 series before I bought the D3 and thoght in size the D3 was much closer to the LC100.

I have not got a lot of time for the plastic dash, door handles, radio and heater controls etc, I think they could be a little bit better on a $80k plus 4wd.
The Toyota looks a lot better in this department. Trust me, what could go wrong?

I think it is a matter of style. D3 style is more utilitarian to differentiate from RR line up. LC200 is an improvement but a more conservative rather than euro styling.

I look at it being "practical" luxury as opposed to "plush" luxury. It is a 4WD afterall  . Plus would prefer $$$ spent on handling and off road ability as opposed to a bling bling interior

I think the Landcruiser has 200 plus KW and 600NM but still claims 10.5l/100km's; I think you can expect it will be very good off road and a hell of a good tow car. Would I buy one? No, my chipped TDV6 is fine and I love the suspension and just the overall look of the Disco - until the D3 V8 Diesel arrives ofcourse... ..cant wait for that!!! Diesel V8 in a D3, ...mmmm I think it will be a long while or never. What's more likely, is a 3 litre V6. The power output from the latest Nissin/Renault 3 litre diesel is phenomenal - 196kW!! '06 Disco 3 TDV6 SE Buckingham Blue
