For as long as I have been buying 4wd magazines, Overlander has been pro Toyota and 4x4 magazine has been pro Nissan. No surprise who would win the Overalander 4WDOTY award.  Trust me, what could go wrong?

Heard from an ex tojo operator that top gear is rarely in use in the 200 ? What speed does the D3 top gear click in at? Cleared to on track

It can be manually put in 6th and will stay there
or left alone it shifts up at about 90kph and happily hold top except in
steeper hillly country........no trouble maintaining 6th on the Hume.
The gearbox is "intelligent" and adapts to your driving style Pete

I select 6th manually a lot, Can be selected from 80km/h up in my MY06
Had an 07 loaner and it would let me select 6th from 70km/hr.
Interesting difference. Any 07 or 08 owners that can comment on the selection speed for their vehicles?

Gents,
You've lost me here. Why is there a need to manually selected 6th? I've never noticed whether my MY07 SE does or does not select 6th, apart from on the hwy when I see the rev drop to about 1800.

I agree with most of the comments above regarding the LC200 but one important advantage (at least for me, considering the roads around here) is that you don't have to worry about limited ground clearance at speed.
Couple that with the 4.5L twin-turbo diesel and it becomes even more appealing. I really don't get LR sometimes, why no TDV8 and higher off-road speed limits for the LR3?

got HSE 4.4 petrol MY'08 - 6th can be selected from 60 kmh - than if speed falls below 60kmh the gear automatically goes down to 5th | Il boit pour oublier qu'il vit

Manually selecting 6th locks the torque converter right up, better fuel economy if you are on the flat and cruising long distance. It shaves about 100-150rpm off the engine speed by my estimation in my vehicle.
Just reading the later notes it seems that there are now quite a few versions of transmission or transimission and software around.

I have read both the Overlander and 4x4 Australia LC200/D3 comparos. These mags really  me off...
IMO, clearly from reading these comparisons all reviewers found the D3 to be the better vehicle - Overlander on the basis that it delivered the best compromise between off road and on road driving, 4x4 based on the D3's merits alone, and both on the price factor.
HOWEVER…not one of them would come out and say “the D3 is the winnerâ€.
We all just know that if they thought that the tojo was better than the Disco they would give it first place - splash its victory around – give it a medal – wave the LC flag, etc.
It hurts them so much just to say that the Disco is a better vehicle that they go all quiet and lame and say “you choose the winner yourself†– f ers.
I guess its also down to the HUGE $$ that Toyota are spending on advertising…

I totally agree with you re teh Magazines - but they are not alone in this regard - Wheels and Modern Motor are the same, very biased towards certain manufacturers. I read both articles and satisfied myself with the fact I made the right choice - even if they cant come out and say that! On my 07SE TDV6 Auto I can manually select 6th at 70Km/Hr and seems to drop down to 5th at about 65Km/Hr.

One of the reasons I rarely buy these mags  I don't need someone else to tell me how good my car is, the smile I have should tell them! regards
