Try nudging one of the aluminum heat shields in different directions...? They somehow rot through around the washer. Easy fix is to replace vanished or broken washer with even larger one I’ve done it twice within a year now.
When does it happen? Constantly? Over uneven surfaces and potholes? Perhaps it is the upper or lower suspension arms? ARB bushes also come to mind which cause clunking when they’re tired... or drop links rattle slightly.

only happens over bumpy ground - it's a 'lose thing' higher pitch rattle - not a clonk or clunk like bushes or ARBs I think.
My hunch is heat shield as well - fingers crossed it's that simple formerly Disco3Ben

following the Bodsy visit we couldn't get the FBH to fire up - his opinion was that was because it was full of crud and needed a clean.
Can't drive the car much at the moment as I'm recovering from viral meningitis and I'm getting very bored!
so decided to pick off some of the jobs - starting with the FBH strip down:
detached all of the hoses and removed a few brackets and eventually got the thing out of the car.
managed to splash myself in the eye with whatever that orange liquid is!
then set apart the strip down:
then this:
became this:
and this bit got a clean as well:
tomorrows job is to inspect the hoses as I think one or two might have tiny holes in, replace if necessary, then put it all back together formerly Disco3Ben

all fitted back in today:
only thing I had to replace was the fuel hose clamp with a jubilee clip, other than that went nice and straight forward just following the pics I took when taking it apart.
What I now need to find out is how I need to prime the system and set it going on a 'hot burn' so everything is working as it should be - presume you do this from the IID tool so going to have a look there firstformerly Disco3Ben

On to the next job on the list - side steps. Bought these a while back so about time this got sorted.
One side done, following the PowerfulUK guide videos on Youtube, which where very useful.
Bit of drilling and Dremmel and the rest was relatively straight forward.
All the correct markings could be found under the dust and dirt!
Other side tomorrow, as I ran out of time this afternoon formerly Disco3Ben

I think you need a laptop and diagnostic lead to do the hot burn on the FBH.
Do you have a contoller connected to your FBH and does it now run?Mods:

Haven’t tried to set it going yet.
Too hot to think about anything burn related!
Was hoping to run it via the IID tool I have, as I don’t have a laptop connection lead.
I have a remote start kit to fit which was another reason to get it all cleaned and working beforehand.formerly Disco3Ben

part success today - other side step nearly complete, just need to tap out one of the threads and I can't find my set anywhere, so off to pick one up in the morning.
on a more positive note - you can fire up the FBH via the iiD tool.
I had the option to prime the fuel - it ran that operation successfully.
Then I had the option to test run the FBH - 'check operation' ran for about 200 seconds (customary puff of smoke from under the front!) and then came back as successful
I am chuffed with having that working as it should now, which means next step is to wire in the remote start kit formerly Disco3Ben

second side step on and adjusted to it fits snug up against the sill.
in the process of giving the car a decent clean and I wonder if there any covers to go over this bodywork scuffing?

Not sure if they’re available in black.... search for sill protectors or sill kick plates on fleabay. Plenty of shiny alternatives that you don’t want (I got some from there) or ones that say discovery.

thanks - been having a look on there.
these are exactly what I'm after, as they have the 90 degree bend over the edge, just don't feel the need to have DISCOVERY written down it!

I got the cheapest ones - no text but they’re shiny They’ve been working fine. No bend or curvature though. If I ordered today I’d take the ones that curve.

Might be an option to check AliExpress. You sometimes get really interesting kit from there but I doubt that it’s possible to ruin sills.

Think I need the curve as the scuffing is on the leading edge, not on the top

Have a look at this one. Similar to what I got for mine. Slightly textured but look good and no writing on them.
Mine were custom fit but this is a long strip so can be cut to size needed.2006 TdV6 HSE.
