Some people!

Went to a lovely restaurant today. Excellent food, good service, a busy and “vibey” atmosphere, so had a great time with SWMBO.

Then I go for a pee before we leave. Nicely decorated and presented toilets, clean and fresh smelling. All the urinals in use, so I had to use a cubicle. And found some dirty, lazy Censored had done a mighty dump, and hadn’t used the toilet brush to clean the pan after him. It was disgusting.

What kind of ignorant, thoughtless Censored doesn’t give a thought for others, or the pleasant surroundings the restaurant’s owners have taken trouble to provide?

As I say, some people. Goat well and truly got!

No sense of personal responsibility these days.

A quarter of children starting primary school in September won't be toilet-trained - that blows my mind.

Shocking thought. It takes only a few weeks to toilet train an 8-10 week old puppy!

Shell VPower Price Adder

Not just today, but what does drive the delta from Shell Regular to VPower, other that price gouging?

Bedale Shell - Regular 146.9; VPower 155.9
A1 Services - Regular 146.9; VPower 161.9 (67% higher on the delta)

Darlington - Regular 147.9; VPower 155.9
Newton Aycliffe (A1 services) - Regular 144.9; VPower 158.9 (75% premium on the delta)

One common factor appears to be the higher mark-up on garages near to the A1, potentially capitalising on company fuel card users?

Also, Shell has just changed the loyalty points scheme. It's now 1 point per litre for normal, and two points per litre for V-Power. Brings the difference down a bit if you collect them.

^^^ Shell! I've been complaining to them about this for a long time.
When they changed it 'points each fill(more than £25)' it was penalising people like me who fill up with £100 (or more) in one go, rather than going in 4 x for £25 a go.

MOT Testers! Evil or Very Mad

So when did 4mm of tread become an advisory on the MOT today, which stated tyre worn close to the legal limit. Did they change it from 1.6mm? Wink

Then on the service document they mark it up to call on 19/01/25. Presumably to order tyres! Banging Head

Using ‘regular’ fuel = zero% premium, and your vehicle* will run just as well as when running on the price gouging stuff. Thumbs Up

* Some (very) high performance petrol engines may see a small benefit with higher octane fuels (i.e. less knocking ….. but how many manufacturers build cars that consistently knock when running on regular?). Diesel engines don’t even get that that ‘benefit’, the premium fuel is regular + some detergents but, again, what manufacturer puts a vehicle on the market that has an engine that will fail or become clogged when running regular fuel? Remember that regular fuels have to meet set quality standards, and engines are designed to those fuel tolerance standards.

(In case you hadn’t guessed, fuel companies that hoodwink customers into shelling out for premium fuels gets my goat) Laughing

Well, it gets my goat that Shell don't relate prices directly to the product on the pump until you actually lift the nozzle to fill up. They present the FuelSave and VPower products with no actual explanation of which is the premium one. I only rarely use a Shell station and, every time, I struggle to work out which is the cheap one and which the price gouging one!

But what does it say on the actual MoT cerificate (or on line). I suspect the flag on the 4mm wear is entirely the garages own parameter in the hope they can sell new tyres to the unsuspecting. The MoT manual ONLY specifies the limit of 1.6mm https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection...tion-5-2-3 No other figure is specified for post 1933 vehicles

I don't know if it is still the case but government vehicles (not military) used to change tyres at 3mm. The point is there is no magic switch at 1.6mm (1.5mm lethal, 1.7mm completely safe). Dry traction is relatively unaffected by wear down to the limit but wet traction is severely affected.
