My father once described consultants as the guys you pay a lot of money to, who borrow your watch and tell you the time!Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Royal Mail time for delivery woes......
A tracked 24 hour delivery failed to materialise (in 36 hours, now 48 hours) so looked up the tracking details and a note on the RM website apologies as my parcel was 'accidentally sent to Swan House DO". This is their depot in Leicester, how that gets confused with their depot in Stratford-upon-Avon is beyond me.....

10 Gold, 7 Silver, 3 Bronze (ranked 11th)
From a population of 5 million, New Zealand does very well on the sporting stage per capita.
Got to laugh!

On a related theme.......we have "won" a Silver medal in preference to just missing out on gold. Just think about that in context of punditry. D3 2.7 Zermatt silver (not another one)
D3 4.4 V8 Zambezi silver
D3 4.4 V8 Adriatic Blue
D3 2.7 (gone) Tonga Green
D3 4.4 V8 LHD Tonga Green

All the known pundits/commentators of the known universe crawled out of the wood work for these Olympics. Even in my aged years, I had genuine trouble remembering who they were or thought they were dead.
That apart, I am not comfortable with the amount of money thrown at our Olympians when there are more pressing causes in the UK, particularly when a lot are professionals, earning good money endorsing products or other making appearances on everything from Strictly to Get Me Out of Here.

What made you think that? Yes, I get my Euro Millions and Lottery tickets twice a week. I don’t have a problem with the proceeds going to charity, but it would be nice if they rotated it with worthwhile causes.
Do you play?

If you’re not in it and all that although I’d have more chance getting a hot date with Taylor Swift.

I really do not have a problem with athletes getting paid from lottery or other funding support my real gripe is that it was most noticeable when reality got the better of the dialogue and BBC Gabby Logan suggested that they had "lost the gold" which was in my view correct and on at least two occasions she was politely admonished on air that the athlete had in fact "won silver". A subtlety born out of the incestuous relationships of the older athletes refusing to call it. It had me shouting at the TV again. Oh the poor dog just wonders
I will throw in also, to me a woke narrative too......"they had injuries in the build up too" so that is what got my goat!D3 2.7 Zermatt silver (not another one)

Our atheletes need a huge amount of support and training before they can reach professional level and reap the rewards of sponsorship deals etc. and of course only a tiny minority will get to that level. UK Sport funds every GB athlete considered to have a credible chance of winning a medal over the next two Olympic and Paralympic games.
UK Sport is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the National Lottery
Some activities generate income for DCMS. It received £202 million in 2022-23 (compared to £218 million in 2021-22), according to the National Audit Office.
Hopefully you’ll feel a bit more comfortable about it now JD.
I don’t know off hand how much, if any, tax payers money is given to UK Sport. My own opinion is that anything that encourages youngsters to take up sport should be praised, for numerous reasons but not least the savings that makes for the NHS.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

That’s a bit condescending! No, not really.
There are a myriad of good and valid causes to support, each with their own case for lottery sponsorship. Sport is just one.
I don’t feel we would gain anything by each of us arguing our case, but perhaps we should appreciate there is a perfectly valid opposing view, so best just agree to disagree on this one and accept no one has the monopoly on what should be sponsored. 👍

Apologies, I didn’t mean to sound condescending. I read your post as you being “not comfortable” with the funding of UK Sport, by I assumed the taxpayer. I attempted to explain that it’s not fully funded, if at all, by the taxpayer, so hopefully you’ll feel more comfortable knowing that. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
